WEEK No. 15:

For the week of 12/31/07, ABC posted its best numbers in Total Viewers (8.4 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.7/7) in 4 weeks since w/o 12/03/07. ABC took second for the week across each of key women demos: Women 18-34 (2.6/8), Women 18-49 (3.3/9) and Women 25-54 (3.8/9).

Rankings: ABC aired 5 of the Top 20 TV programs of the week in Adults 18-49, including the No. 1 scripted series with "Desperate Housewives": "Desperate Housewives" No. 3, "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 6, "Supernanny SP-1/2" No. 14, "Cashmere Mafia SP-1/6" No. 18 and "Supernanny" No. 20. The Net placed 2 shows in the week's Top 10 among Total Viewers, including the No. 1 scripted series with "Desperate Housewives": "Desperate Housewives" No. 4 and "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" No. 9. In addition to ranking the highest-rated series in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, ABC's "Desperate Housewives" was also the week's top telecast overall across each of the key women (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, nearly doubling from over 11% during the same point in 2006 up to more than 21% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

ABC's New Year's Eve lineup of the "ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" and "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve 2008" won Monday evening in both Total Viewers (7.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.4/8), beating the second-place networks by 2.7 million viewers (5.1 million - CBS) and by 85% in Adults 18-49 (1.3/5 - Fox).

"ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

The Net's rebroadcast of the "ABC Monday Movie of the Week: Shrek 2" attracted 7.1 million viewers and a 2.0 rating, 7 share in Adults 18-49, leading its 2-hour time period in both Nielsen measures among the broadcast net.

"Shrek 2" outperformed its movie competition on the night, "Fox's Night at the Movies: Men in Black II" (3.9 million & 1.3/5), by 3.1 million viewers and by 54% in Adults 18-49.

"Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

ABC's broadcast of "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve," led the final hour of prime and ranked as the No. 1 program in primetime in Total Viewers (9.2 million) across each of the key adult demos [Adults 18-34 (2.2/9), Adults 18-49 (3.1/11) and Adults 25-54 (3.5/11)] and Teens 12-17 (3.2/14).

"Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" was up over the previous year by nearly 1.0 million viewers and by 11% in Adults 18-49 (8.3 million & 2.8/9 in Adults 18-49 on 12/31/06). In fact, "Dick Clark's Primetime New Year's Rockin' Eve" delivered its best numbers in both viewers in young adults in 6 years since 2001.

ABC's Wednesday lineup including the season premieres of "Wife Swap" and "Supernanny" took second on the night in Adults 18-49 (3.7/9), behind only Fox's coverage of the "Tostitos Fiesta Bowl." The Net led the evening among Women 18-34 (4.4/13) and Women 18-49 (5.0/13). ABC beat NBC's lineup, featuring the time period premiere of "Deal or No Deal" and the 2-hour season premiere of "Law & Order," in Adults 18-34 by 24% (3.1/9 vs. 2.5/7).

ABC was up over the year-ago Wednesday (1/3/07) by 2.5 million viewers (8.8 million vs. 6.3 million) and by 48% in Adults 18-49 (3.7/9 vs. 2.5/7), when the Net aired an all-original schedule featuring comedy premieres from 8-10pm.

"Wife Swap" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Wife Swap" premiered its fourth season with a time period-winning performance among Women 18-34 (3.8/12) and Women 18-49 (4.4/12). "Wife Swap" beat its unscripted competition, CBS' season premiere of "Power of 10," by 1.9 million viewers (8.4 million vs. 6.5 million) and by 106% in Adults 18-49 (3.3/9 vs. 1.6/4).

"Supernanny" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

The Season 4 debut of ABC's "Supernanny" beat the first hour of NBC's "Law & Order" by 23% in Adults 18-34 (3.2/9 vs. 2.6/7). Like its lead-in, "Supernanny" ranked No. 1 in its hour among Women 18-34 (4.5/12) and Women 18-49 (5.0/12).

"Supernanny" beat the second hour of NBC's "Law & Order" by 8% among Adults 18-49 (4.0/10 vs. 3.7/10) and by 48% among Adults 18-34 (3.4/10 vs. 2.3/7).

"Supernanny" led the final hour of prime and stood as Wednesday's No. 1 program across each of the key women demographics: Women 18-34 (4.9/14), Women 18-49 (5.6/14) and Women 25-54 (5.9/13).

"Women's Murder Club" (9:02-10:02 p.m.)

ABC's "Women's Murder Club" led the 9 o'clock hour in Total Viewers (7.8 million) for the 9th straight airing on Friday.

"20/20" (10:02-11:00 p.m.)

ABC News' "20/20" led the final hour of the night Total Viewers (7.6 million), Adults 18-49 (2.1/6) and Adults 25-54 (2.6/7).

With coverage of ABC News/Facebook/WMUR-TV's back-to-back Republican and Democratic debates in New Hampshire, ABC took second place on Saturday night against NBC's high-rated NFL playoff game (Jacksonville-Pittsburgh) in Total Viewers (8.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.0/6-tie). Starting off the night the Republican Debate (7:09-8:47 p.m.) drew an average audience of 7.4 million viewers and following that the Democratic Debate (9:03-10:43 p.m.) drew an average of 9.4 million viewers, representing the two largest audiences for any debates thus far of the 2008 presidential cycle. ABC News' coverage of the debates paced well ahead of the previous high-rated debate, the CNN/You Tube GOP Debate on 11/28/07, with an average audience of 4.5 million viewers.

ABC News' coverage of the back-to-back debates generated the Network's largest Saturday night audience in 5 weeks - since 12/1/07.

ABC took second place on Sunday in Adults 18-49 (4.5/11) to an NFL-fueled CBS, with a playoff overrun (Chargers-Titans) into the opening hour of prime. The Network posted a definitive victory on the night across the key women demographics: W18-34 (4.5/12), W18-49 (6.0/14) and W25-54 (6.9/15).

For its 10th consecutive original airing this season (on each of the series' original telecasts), ABC's "Desperate Housewives" stood as Sunday's No. 1 TV series in Total Viewers and Adults 18-49.

"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)

Opposite CBS' NFL overrun during the 7 o'clock hour, ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos" took second place in Adults 18-49, beating the first hour of NBC's 2-hour "Deal or No Deal" by 9% (2.4/6 vs. 2.2/6).
