Thursday Night (8:00-11:00 p.m.)

On a Thursday evening filled with all-original competition on the major nets, ABC finished a dominant No. 1 in Adults 18-49 (4.2/11), defeating second-place CBS by 20% (3.5/9), third-place NBC by 27% (3.3/9) and fourth-place Fox by 62% (2.6/7). The Net also led the night by wide margins among Adults 25-54 (4.9/12) and Adults 18-34 (4.0/12) and across all key women: Women 18-34 (6.2/17), Women 18-49 (6.2/15) and Women 25-54 (6.9/16).

"Ugly Betty" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Ugly Betty" ranked No. 1 during the 8 o'clock hour across each of the key adult demographics: AD18-34 (2.8/8), AD18-49 (3.1/8-tie) and AD25-54 (3.8/9). For the 10th consecutive regular original telecast, "Betty" ranked No. 1 in its time slot with Women 18-34, besting second-place Fox's "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader" by 52% (4.4/13 vs. 2.9/8). In fact "Betty" stood as the No. 2 TV show on Thursday with Women 18-34, behind only lead-out "Grey's Anatomy."

"Ugly Betty" was up from its most recent original telecast (12/6/07) by 5% in Total Viewers (9.9 million vs. 9.4 million) and by 7% in Adults 18-49 (3.1/8 vs. 2.9/8), representing the series' best results since November 15, 2007.

"Grey's Anatomy" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" dominated the 9 o'clock hour and ranked as Thursday's No. 1 television program across each of the key adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (7.0/19), Adults 18-49 (7.0/17) and Adults 25-54 (7.7/17). In its time period, "Grey's" topped CBS' "C.S.I." by 40% in Adults 18-49 (7.0/17 vs. 5.0/12), its second-biggest margin of victory this season over an original installment of "C.S.I." Also in the 9:00 p.m. hour, NBC's "The Apprentice" fell back to a distant third place and dropped precipitously from its week-ago season premiere, losing -3.0 million viewers and -22% of its Adult 18-49 audience week to week. "Grey's" marked its 11th consecutive original telecast this season as Thursday's No. 1 TV show in the key young adult sales demographic.

 "Grey's Anatomy" generated its top numbers since mid-November (11/15/07) in each of the women demographics: W18-34 (10.7/26), W18-49 (10.3/23) and W25-54 (11.0/23).

"Big Shots" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

In the final hour of the night against veteran dramas on CBS ("Without a Trace") and NBC ("ER"), ABC's freshman "Big Shots" ranked No. 1 among Women 18-34 (3.5/10).

"Big Shots" jumped from its most recent original telecast (11/29/07) by 1.5 million viewers (6.8 million vs. 5.3 million) and by 24% in Adults 18-49 (2.6/7 vs. 2.1/6).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year to year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has nearly doubled from just over 11% at the same point in 2006, approaching 22% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. Therefore, the only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
