WEEK No. 45:

During the week of July 28, 2008, ABC saw week-to-week increases in both Total Viewers (4.4 million vs. 4.3 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/5 vs. 1.4/5).

For the 7th time in 10 weeks of the summer, ABC was up over the same week last summer in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (4.2 million and 1.4/5 in Adults 18-49 on the w/o 7/30/07). In fact, ABC was the only network to grow its Adult 18-49 audience year to year.

Rankings: ABC claimed 3 of the week's Top 15 TV shows in Adults 18-49: "Wipeout" No. 2, "Primetime: The Last Lecture: A Celebration of Life" No. 9 and "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" No. 11. ABC News aired TV's Top 2 newsmagazines of the week in Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54 with Tuesday's "Primetime: The Last Lecture: A Celebration of Life" and Wednesday's "Primetime: Crime," respectively. In fact, it is the 4th straight week that ABC News has aired the Top 2 newsmagazines of the week in Adults 18-49.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating trends based on the Live + Same Day data stream may be somewhat distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped from 18% at the same point in 2006-07, up to 26% currently. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.

Monday

"High School Musical: Get in the Picture-MON" (8:00-9:00 p.m.)

"High School Musical: Get in the Picture" was up week to week in both Total Viewers (3.5 million vs. 3.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.0/3 vs. 0.9/3).

"Wanna Bet" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

Similarly to its lead-in, ABC's "Wanna Bet" posted increases over its week-ago series premiere in both Total Viewers (3.4 million vs. 3.1 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.2/3 vs. 1.1/3).

Tuesday

ABC won Tuesday night in both Adults 18-34 (2.1/7) and Adults 18-49 (2.8/8) for the second week running. For the 7th time in the last 8 weeks, the Net led the night among Men 18-49 (2.4/7) and Men 25-54 (2.7/8).

ABC outperformed its Tuesday performance on the same night last year (7/31/07) by 1.6 million viewers (7.7 million vs. 6.1 million) and by 27% in Adults 18-49 (2.8/8 vs. 2.2/7).

"Wipeout" (8:00-9:01 p.m.)

ABC's "Wipeout" dominated the opening hour of primetime on Tuesday, taking the top spot in the hour in Viewers and all key Adults, Women and Men demos. The hit ABC series has ranked No. 1 in its time period in Adults 18-49 in all 6 of its telecasts to date. "Wipeout" stood as Tuesday's No. 1 TV program for the second week in a row among Adults 18-34 (2.7/10), Men 18-34 (2.5/9) and Men 18-49 (3.2/11). "Wipeout" finished as the No. 2 television show of the evening in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, one-tenth of a rating point behind NBC's "America's Got Talent" in the key sales demo and topping the NBC show in audience share (3.6/11 vs. 3.7/10).

"I Survived a Japanese Game Show" (9:01-10:00 p.m.)

Opposite stiff competition including CBS' "Big Brother" and NBC's "America's Got Talent," ABC's "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" posted week-to-week increases in both Total Viewers (5.7 million vs. 5.6 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.3/6 vs. 2.1/6), taking second in the hour in the key adult sales demo. "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" was up over ABC's performance in the hour on the same night last year in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (5.5 million & 2.1/6 in Adults 18-49 on 7/31/07 with an original of "Shaq's Big Challenge").

"Primetime: The Last Lecture: A Celebration of Life" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)

The ABC News special "Primetime: The Last Lecture: A Celebration of Life," featuring Diane Sawyer's interview with Carnegie Mellon Professor Randy Pausch -- who passed away on 7/25/08 from pancreatic cancer -- saw the newsmagazine win the final hour of primetime in Total Viewers (7.7 million) and across all key adult demographics: Adults 18-34 (1.6/5), Adults 18-49 (2.4/7) and Adults 25-54 (3.0/8).

Part 6 of the documentary series won the hour among Women 18-49 (2.4/7), taking the top spot in the key women demo for the 5th time in 6 telecasts.

Saturday

"Wipeout" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)

A special repeat telecast of ABC's "Wipeout" won the hour in Adults 18-34 (1.2/5) and Adults 18-49 (1.5/6), standing as Saturday's No. 1 program in Adults 18-34.

Sunday

"America's Funniest Home Videos" (7:00-8:00 p.m.)
