"Desperate Housewives" (9:00-10:00 p.m.)
Against stiff competition in the 9 o'clock hour, including NBC's Olympics Closing Ceremony and CBS' "Undercover Boss," ABC's "Desperate Housewives" won its time period and grew week to week among Women 18-34 (+5% - 4.2/11 vs. 4.0/10). "Housewives" qualified as Sunday's No. 1 scripted program in Total Viewers (10.8 million) and Adults 18-49 (3.6/9).
"Brothers & Sisters" (10:00-11:00 p.m.)
Up week to week and finishing as the No. 1 scripted program for the 2nd-week in a row in Sunday's 10 o'clock hour, ABC's "Brothers & Sisters" outdelivered CBS' "Cold Case" among young Adults: Adults 18-34 +25% (2.0/6 vs. 1.6/5) and Adults 18-49 +8% (2.6/7 vs. 2.4/6).
"Brothers & Sisters" tallied its 2nd consecutive telecast of increases with Total Viewers (8.0 million vs. 7.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (2.6/7 vs. 2.5/7), while posting its highest Adult 18-34 rating in 7 weeks since 1/10/10.
A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 36% currently, from 30% at the same point in 2009. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight
next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
