ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Turns in 2nd-Best Performance This Season

During the week of March 28, 2011, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live turned in its 2nd-best performance of the season in late-night in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49. Building on the previous week by 4% in viewers and by 5% in young adults, JKL drew its largest weekly audience and best young adult performance in over 4 months - since w/o 11/22/10. In addition, JKL delivered solid double-digit gains over the year-ago week in viewers (+19%) and Adults 18-49 (+31%), turning in its 3rd consecutive week of year-to-year increases. Impressively, JKL posted the largest yearly increase of any late-night broadcast program in both Nielsen measures.
· Excluding the NBA Finals-led broadcasts in June, JKL's Tuesday telecast (3/29/11), featuring guests Johnny Knoxville, former "Dancing with the Stars" contestant Mike Catherwood and Britney Spears, attracted the ABC late-night program's largest Adult 18-49 audience in 10 months and 2nd-largest overall audience of the season on any night in late-night - since 5/25/10 and 11/23/10, respectively.
· In addition, on Monday (3/28/11), with guests Sharon Osbourne, "Dancing with the Stars'" Bruno Tonioli and the Sounds JKL delivered the show's largest audience on the night in over 2 years - since 3/2/09.
· For the week of March 28, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live outperformed CBS' The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson by a solid 16% in Total Viewers and by 9% in Adults 18-49, topping the CBS late-night program in viewers for the 3rd week running and in the key young adult demo for the 2nd time in a row.
· JKL drew a larger overall audience than NBC's Late Night with Jimmy Fallon (+17%) for the 2nd straight week and also bested Fallon among Adults 18-49 (+2%).
· For the season to date (28 weeks), Jimmy Kimmel Live posts increases over the comparable weeks last year in both Total Viewers (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (+3%).

During the week of March 28, 2011, ABC's "Nightline" ranked No. 1 among Total Viewers (4.27 million), Adults 25-54 (1.83 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.40 million), according to Nielsen Media Research. In fact, "Nightline" ranked No. 1 in all key target demos for the 6th straight week. In winning the week in both key Adult demos, "Nightline" turned in its longest string ever of consecutive No. 1 finishes in both Adults 18-49 and Adults 25-54.
"Nightline" saw week-to-week increases in both Adults 25-54 (+3%) and Adults 18-49 (3%) for the 3rd week in a row, posting the ABC late night program's strongest performances in both Adult demos in nearly 2 months - since week of 1/31/11. Further, the ABC program posted its 3rd strongest Adult numbers of the season.
Also for the 3rd straight week, "Nightline" built on the same week last year among Total Viewers (+17%), Adults 25-54 (+18%) and Adults 18-49 (+18%). Additionally, the ABC late-night program increased its overall audience year over year for the 7th week running.
Season to date, "Nightline" ranks first in late-night among Total Viewers and Adults 25-54. This is the first time that "Nightline" has been in first place at this point in the season since at least the 1993-94 season, when "Letterman" began on CBS. In addition, "Nightline" is up by +3% in Total Viewers and by +4% in Adults 25-54 compared to the same point last year. Season to date "Nightline" is drawing its largest overall audience in 8 years - since the 2002-03 season.
"Nightline" bettered NBC's "The Tonight Show" by +290,000 Adults 25-54 and +200,000 Adults 18-49, its biggest winning advantage over the NBC program in both Adult demos in 9 months - since w/o 6/28/10.
"Nightline" outperformed CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman" by its largest margin in Adults 25-54 (+290,000) and Adults 18-49 (+230,000) since January - since w/o 1/3/11 and w/o 1/10/11, respectively.

During the week of March 28, 2011, ABC saw week-to-week increases in late-night in Total Viewers (+2% - 2.49 million vs. 2.45 million) and Adults 18-49 (+5% - 938,000 vs. 897,000), building on its previous week's numbers for the 3rd week in a row. In fact, the Net turned in its best performance in late-night in 2 months in both measures - since w/o 1/31/11. Impressively, ABC stood as the only broadcast network to post week-to-week increases in late-night in young adults (NBC was down -11%, CBS was down -3%).
Building year to year for the 3rd straight week, ABC grew its numbers in late-night by double-digit percentages over the same week last year (w/o 3/29/10), by 13% in Total Viewers (2.49 million vs. 2.20 million) and by 22% in Adults 18-49 (938,000 vs. 770,000). In fact, ABC posted the largest year-to-year increase in late-night of any broadcast network in both Nielsen measures (NBC was down -6% and -9%, respectively; CBS was up +3% and +2%, respectively).
· During the week, ABC posted a first-place finish in late-night in Adults 18-49 and ran in a virtual tie for No. 1 with CBS in Total Viewers (2.49 million vs. 2.50 million).
· ABC topped NBC in late-night by a season-best margin of 10% in Adults 18-49 (938,000 vs. 849,000), marking its largest margin of victory over NBC since the week of 6/14/10.
