TNT's Epic Series "Falling Skies" Continues to Reign as Cable's Top New Drama

TNT's epic series Falling Skies continues to reign as cable's top new drama. Sunday, the show drew 3.9 million viewers (Live + Same Day), with 1.8 million adults 18-49 and 2.1 million adults 25-54. The July 3 episode grew to an extraordinary 6.1 million viewers in Live + 3 viewing, with 2.8 million adults 18-49 and 3.3 million adults 25-54. The June 26 episode grew to 6.2 million viewers, 3.1 million adults 18-49 and 3.5 million adults 25-54 in Live + 7.

On Sunday, TNT's hit caper series Leverage scored big growth in Live + Same Day, with 3.2 million viewers (+32% over the prior week's episode), 1.1 million adults 18-49 (+23%) and 1.5 million adults 25-54 (+40%). According to Live + 3 data, the July 3 episode grew to 3.9 million viewers, 1.5 million adults 18-49 and 1.9 million adults 25-54. And in Live + 7, the June 26 season 4 premiere topped out at 4.9 million viewers (+17% vs. season 3 premiere), 2 million adults 18-49 (+7%) and 2.3 million adults 25-54 (+4%).

TNT's Memphis Beat led off Tuesday night with outstanding growth compared to the prior week. The drama stirred up 4.3 million viewers in Live + 3 (3.3 million (Live + Same Day), up 12% vs. the previous week, with 1.2 million adults 18-49 (824,000 L+SD) and 1.4 million adults 25-54 (1 million L+SD). HawthoRNe registered 3.2 million viewers in Live + 3 (2.5 million L+SD), with 1.3 million adults 18-49 (1 million L+SD) and 1.5 million adults 25-54 (1.2 million L+SD), up 3% in all three categories compared to the previous week.

Wednesday night's episode of TNT's hit series Franklin & Bash scored 3.7 million viewers in Live + 3 (2.6 million Live + Same Day), up 11% over the prior week. The show also garnered 1.8 million adults 18-49 (1.2 million L+SD), up 15% over the prior week, and 1.8 million adults 25-54 (1.2 million L+SD), up 11%. The Peabody Award-winning Men of a Certain Age closed out its second season with big growth over the previous week. The season finale scored 2.4 million viewers in Live + 3 (1.8 million L+SD), up 5% vs. the prior week; 840,000 adults 18-49 (584,000 L+SD), up 18%; and 1.1 million adults 25-54 (760,000 L+SD), up 12%.

TNT's NASCAR Summer Series coverage continued strong, with Sunday's race coverage from Kentucky averaging 5 million viewers to rank as basic cable's top sports telecast for the week. The race grew 8% in total viewers over the corresponding race last year, while households were up 11% to 3.5 million and household rating was up 7% to 3.0. The race saw particularly strong growth among adults 18-34 (455,000; +24%) and men 18-34 (293,000; +31%). Through its first five races, TNT's NASCAR Summer Series is averaging a 3.2 U.S. household rating, up 7% over last year's performance.

Adult Swim

A solid performance from a new episode of Adult Swim's original series Childrens Hospital (Thursday, 12 a.m.) ranked #1 in its time period on ALL television among adults 18-34, 18-49 and 18-24.

Boosted by the performances of its original series, Adult Swim once again ranked #1 for Total Day Delivery of adults 18-34 and 18-49, and men 18-34 and 18-49. Adult Swim programming accounted for 18 of the top 50 telecasts of the week on basic cable among adults 18-34, and 28 of the top 50 among men 18-34, both more than any other network.

Cartoon Network

Across the second week of July 2011, Cartoon Network's Early Evening performance (Mon-Sun, 7-9 p.m.) earned significant double-digit growth vs. the same time period last year - kids 6-11 average delivery (573,000) increased by 61%, kids 2-11 (826,000) increased by 44% and kids 9-14 (400,000) increased by 61%. In Total Day (Mon-Sun, 6 a.m.-9 p.m.), delivery grew by double digits across the board as well - kids 6-11 (461,000) grew by 28%, kids 2-11 (662,000) grew by 12% and kids 9-14 (352,000) grew by 36%.

On July 4, Cartoon Network's Monday night (7-9 p.m.) stood out as TV's #1 destination for kids and boys 9-14. Animated comedy series Johnny Test (7 p.m.) ranked #1 in its time period across all kids 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14, and boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. Similarly, The Amazing World of Gumball (7:30 p.m.), ranked #1 in it is time period with kids 9-14, and boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14.

On Tuesday night, Juggernaut original series The Looney Tunes Show (8 p.m.) topped all TV programs as the #1 show in its time period among kids 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14, and boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14. The night overall (7-9 p.m.) ranked as the #1 TV destination for all boys 2-11, 6-11 and 9-14.

Wednesday night's line-up (7-9 p.m.) of alternative programming earned solid delivery gains among all kids - average kids 6-11 delivery (502,000) improved by 12%, kids 2-11 (695,000) improved by 5%, and kids 9-14 (390,000) improved by 33%. Dude, What Would Happen (8 p.m.) charted significant gains across all kids and boys demos, particularly kids 9-14 (409,000) which grew by 52% compared to last year's telecast. Similarly, Destroy Build Destroy (8:30) posted double-digit gains among kids 9-14 (380,000/ up 21%) and boys 9-14 (331,000/ up 20%).

HLN

HLN ranked as the most-watched network on all of television on Tuesday, July 5, during the quarter hour of the Casey Anthony verdict (2:15-2:30 p.m. ET), garnering 5.2 million total viewers and beating second-ranked ABC by 68% among total viewers.

TBS

CONAN was on break last week. The show continued to score strong gains in time-shifted viewing, garnering a total of 1 million viewers; 491,000 adults 18-34; and 710,000 adults 18-49 in Live + 7 delivery for the week of June 20.

truTV

truTV's blockbuster series Hardcore Pawn drew more than 1.6 million viewers Tuesday at 9 p.m. and ranked among basic cable's top 5 programs in its timeslot among adults 18-49, men 18-34 and men 18-49, with triple-digit demo growth compared to the same timeslot last year.

truTV's newest hit, Storage Hunters, delivered more than 1.7 million viewers Tuesday at 10 p.m., garnering huge time-period growth and ranking among basic cable's Top 5 programs in the timeslot with men 18-49.

truTV's World's Dumbest... wrangled more than 1.5 million viewers Thursday at 9 p.m., ranking among basic cable's Top 5 shows in the timeslot and scoring significant time-period growth with key male and adult demos.
