JAY AND JIMMY DELIVER THEIR BIGGEST 18-49 AUDIENCES IN THREE MONTHS
SEASON TO DATE, JAY AND JIMMY INCREASE THEIR TOTAL-VIEWER MARGINS VS. LAST YEAR
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. -December 15, 2011 -NBC's late-night lineup has generated #1 rankings for the week of December 5-9 over the ABC and CBS time-period competition, with "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" both generating their biggest adult 18-49 audiences in three months.
For the week, Jay out-delivered CBS's "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's combination of "Nightline" and "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in viewers 18-49, total viewers and other key categories with the biggest "Tonight" 18-49 audience (1.211 million) since the week of September 5-9. In 18-49 rating, "Tonight" and "Late Show" tied with a 0.9 rating each, while the "Tonight" margin of victory in viewers 18-49 was 5 percent (1.211 million vs. 1.158 million). In total viewers, "Tonight" topped CBS's "Late Show" by a 19 percent margin (with 3.899 million viewers vs. 3.280 million), matching Jay's biggest advantage versus "Late Show" originals so far this season.
At 12:35 a.m. ET for the week, Jimmy Fallon delivered bigger audiences than CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and head to head against ABC's second half of "Kimmel" in viewers 18-49, total viewers and other key categories, with the biggest "Late Night" 18-49 audience (768,000) since the week of September 5-9.
All three NBC weeknight late-night series were up versus the same week last year in total viewers, "Tonight" by 0.2 percent (3.899 million vs. 3.890 million), "Late Night" by 3 percent (1.845 million vs. 1.792 million) and "Last Call with Carson Daly" by 1 percent (1.034 million vs. 1.024 million).
Through the first 12 weeks of the season, "Tonight" has increased its total-viewer margin over "Late Show" to 12 percent (3.725 million vs. 3.325 million), up from the year-ago season-to-date advantage of 7 percent. Jimmy Fallon has established a total-viewer lead over "Late Late Show" this season of 14 percent (1.782 million vs. 1.566 million), after trailing by 3 percent one year ago. Jimmy has also increased his season-to-date lead over "Late Late Show" in adults 18-34, to 39 percent (294,000 vs. 211,000) up from last year's 24 percent, and in adults 25-54, up to 7 percent (871,000 vs. 813,000) up from 1 percent at this point last season.
