Live + 7 Day Ratings: ABC's "Modern Family" Surges Ahead of "Idol" to Finish as Wednesday's #1 TV Show in Adults 18-49

Live + 7 Day Ratings for the week of 2/4/13 (Week #20):

Based on Nielsen's TV playback data for the week, ABC's Modern Family registered as the biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in Adults 18-49 for the 13th time in its 13 weeks of original telecasts, picking up an additional +2.3 rating points over its originally reported Live + Same Day number. The ABC sitcom also qualified as the week's biggest overall gainer, adding on +4.65 million viewers to its L+SD tally. Based on TV playback data for the 2012-13 season, ABC's Modern Family is the season's biggest gainer via time-shifted viewing in both Total Viewers and Adults 18-49, adding on +4.58 million viewers and +2.3 rating points.

Jumping 79% over its initially reported Live + Same Day rating, ABC's Revenge stood as the biggest percentage gainer among Adults 18-49, growing to a 2.5 rating in the week's final Live + 7 numbers. In fact, ABC claimed 4 of the 6 biggest percentage gainers in TV playback on broadcast in young adults, including the week's biggest freshman gainer with Nashville: Revenge - #1 (+79%), Nashville - #2 (+71%), Modern Family - #4 (+62%) and Castle - #6 (+61%).

Based on Live + 7 Day ratings for the week, ABC's Modern Family finished as Wednesday's #1 TV show for its 2nd original telecast in a row among Adults 18-49 (6.0 rating), surging ahead of Fox's American Idol-Weds by 5-tenths of a rating (5.5). Initially in the Live + Same Day statistics, Idol ranked as the night's top-rated show by a margin of 9-tenths of a rating point. Modern Family also moved ahead of American Idol-Thurs (5.1), while leapfrogging over CBS' How I Met Your Mother (5.1), Two and a Half Men (4.9) and 2 Broke Girls (4.8).

· ABC had 7 telecasts add on at least 2.5 million viewers over their originally reported L+SD numbers: Modern Family (+4.65 million), Castle (+3.72 million), Grey's Anatomy (+3.41 million), Nashville (+2.76 million), Scandal (+2.69 million), Once Upon a Time (+2.69 million) and Revenge (+2.61 million).

· Among Adults 18-49, 7 of ABC's series registered substantial ratings increases of at least a full rating point: Modern Family (+2.3 rating points), Grey's Anatomy (+1.6 rating points), Nashville (+1.2 rating points), Once Upon a Time (+1.1 rating points), Castle (+1.1 rating points), Revenge (+1.1 rating points) and Scandal (+1.0 rating points).
