Encore telecasts of Leno defeat Letterman and Kimmel in nearly all key categories and Fallon rebroadcasts top Ferguson and 'Nightline' originals in total viewers and every key demo
UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - June 6, 2013 - "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" and "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" both scored decisive wins in total viewers and key demos over their timeslot competition for the week of May 27-31.
From 11:35 p.m.-12:35 a.m. ET, encore telecasts of "The Tonight Show" delivered bigger audiences than CBS's rebroadcasts of "Late Show with David Letterman" and ABC's encore "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in nearly every key category.
Immediately following "The Tonight Show," "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" rebroadcasts generated bigger audiences than originals of CBS's "Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" and ABC's first-run "Nightline" in all key categories - adults, men and women 18-34, 18-49 and 25-54, as well as total viewers.
Note that Monday results are excluded due to the Memorial Day holiday.
Leno and Fallon scored gains versus the same week last year, with Leno up 6% in viewers 18-49 (874,000 vs. 827,000) and Fallon up 3% (561,000 vs. 547,000).
Both Leno and Fallon are generating growth nine weeks into the second quarter of 2013, with Leno up versus one year ago by 3% in viewers 18-49 (with 1.054 million vs. 1.022 million) and up 4% in viewers 18-34 (334,000 vs. 322,000). Fallon is up for the second quarter by 4% in viewers 18-49 (694,000 vs. 666,000), 13% in viewers 18-34 (289,000 vs. 256,000) and 5% in total viewers (1.746 million vs. 1.669 million).
Fallon encores generated a 24% margin of victory over "Late Late Show" in viewers 18-49 (561,000 vs. 453,000), though both shows rounded to a 0.4 rating in 18-49 for the week. The "Late Night" rebroadcasts also prevailed versus "Late Late Show" originals by 12% in total viewers (1.478 million vs. 1.321 million), 14% in viewers 25-54 (700,000 vs. 613,000) and 77% in viewers 18-34 (236,000 vs. 133,000).
Leno has now delivered bigger 18-49 audiences than "Late Show" for the last 28 weeks in a row and topped "Kimmel" for 19 of their 21 head-to-head weeks. In total viewers, Leno has out-delivered "Late Show" for 32 weeks in a row and "Kimmel" for 21 of 21 weeks.
Fallon has now generated bigger 18-49 audiences than "Late Late Show" for 33 of the last 34 weeks and prevailed in total viewers for 30 of the last 32 weeks. Versus "Nightline" in their head-to-head half-hour, Fallon has out-delivered the ABC series for 21 weeks in a row in viewers 18-49 and 16 of the last 18 weeks in total viewers.
