ABC Is #1 on Monday - "Mistresses" Surges 20% Week to Week and Improves Its Slot by 33% Year to Year

With The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All and Mistresses, ABC ranked #1 on Monday in Adults 18-49 (2nd time in 3 weeks) and across all key Women demos (W18-34/W18-49/W25-54).

From 8-10pm, ABC's The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All ranked #1 in its 2-hour slot with Total Viewers and Adults 18-49 (3rd time in 4 weeks). In its time period, the ABC unscripted series defeated NBC's unscripted combo (American Ninja Warrior/Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls) by 2.0 million viewers and by 27% in Adults 18-49. The program was up week to week by 6% in Adults 18-49, matching its 2nd highest rating this season.

During the 10 o'clock hour, ABC's Mistresses grew week to week by 17% in viewers and by 20% in young adults to post 6-week highs - since 6/10/13. In addition, the ABC drama achieved new series highs with Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34. In fact in its time period, Mistresses beat CBS' Under the Dome among Women 18-34 (+7%). On average season to date, Mistresses is improving its time period for ABC by double-digit margins in Total Viewers (+23%) and Adults 18-49 (+33%).

From 8:00 - 10:00 p.m., "The Bachelorette: The Men Tell All" made ABC No. 1 in the 2-hour slot with Total Viewers (6.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.9/6) for the 3rd time in 4 weeks. In its time period, the ABC unscripted series defeated NBC's unscripted combo (4.5 million and 1.5/4 with "American Ninja Warrior"/"Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls") by 2.0 million viewers and by 27% in Adults 18-49. The program was up week to week by 6% in Adults 18-49, matching its 2nd-highest rating this season.

In addition, the ABC drama achieved new series highs with Adults 18-34 and Women 18-34. In its time period, "Mistresses" beat CBS' "Under the Dome" among Women 18-34 (+7% - 1.6/5 vs. 1.5/5). On average season to date, "Mistresses" is improving its time period for ABC by double-digit margins in Total Viewers (+23% - 4.9 million vs. 4.0 million) and Adults 18-49 (+33% - 1.6/5 vs. 1.2/3).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 45% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
