"Extreme Weight Loss" Builds to a 5-Week High in Adults 18-34, Posting the ABC Unscripted Series' 2nd-Strongest Rating This Season

Spiking 44% from its First Hour to its Second Hour in Adults 18-49, ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" Nearly Catches Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" from 9-10pm

"Extreme Weight Loss" (8:00-10:00 p.m.)

From 8:00-10:00 p.m., ABC's "Extreme Weight Loss" increased its Adult 18-34 delivery 13% week to week (0.9/3 vs. 0.8/3), hitting a 5-week high and its 2nd-best number this season - since 6/25/13. In addition, the show held even week to week in Adults 18-49 (1.1/4). Up against strong unscripted competition from NBC's "America's Got Talent" and Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance" during the 9 o'clock hour, "Extreme Weight Loss" grew by double-digit percentages from its first hour to its second hour in viewers (+12% - 3.4 million to 3.8 million) and young adults (+44% - 0.9/3 to 1.3/4). In fact from 9:00-10:00 p.m., "Extreme Weight Loss" nearly caught "So You Think You Can Dance" in both Total Viewers (3.8 million vs. 3.9 million) and Adults 18-49 (1.3/4 vs. 1.4/4), pacing within 100,000 viewers and 1-tenth of a rating point (tying in audience share).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 48% currently, from 44% at the same point in 2012. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
