ABC Is Up 40% Year to Year on Super Bowl Sunday/"Shark Tank" Spikes at 10pm to Rank as the Top Non-Sports Show
With back-to-back encores of America's Funniest Home Videos (7-9pm) and Shark Tank (9-11pm) opposite Fox's Super Bowl coverage, ABC was the non-sports leader on Sunday in Adults 18-49 (0.7/1), beating out NBC by 40% (0.5/1) and CBS by 40% (0.5/1).
· ABC was up over its year-ago performance on Super Bowl Sunday by 35% in Total Viewers (2.7 million vs. 2.0 million) and by 40% in Adults 18-49 (0.7/1 vs. 0.5/1).
· During the final hour of the night, Shark Tank built on its Adult 18-49 lead-in by 83% at 10pm to rank as the top-rated non-sports broadcast on Sunday, with a 22% advantage over runner-up CBS' NCIS (1.1/3 vs. 0.9/2 from 10-11pm). Despite the competition, Shark Tank more than doubled the time period week to week (+120%) to deliver a 5-week high among Adults 18-49 - since 12/29/12.

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 49% currently, from 47% at the same point in 2013. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
