ABC's Wednesday Grows Against WS Game 7 - Nashville Equals a Season High and black-ish is Up 13% in AD18-49

ABC Wednesday Prime (8-11pm - 7.1 million and 2.2/6 in AD18-49):

Against the highly rated deciding Game 7 of the 2014 World Series, ABC was the #1 non-sports network on Wednesday in Adults 18-49 by 10% over CBS (2.2/6 vs. 2.0/6). ABC's Modern Family (3.4/10) and black-ish (2.7/8) ranked as the Top 2 series telecasts of the night in Adults 18-49. The Net's Wednesday night was up 5% week to week in Adults 18-49 and topped the year-ago night by 22%, when it faced the deciding Game 6 of the 2013 World Series.

· Season to date, ABC's 2-hour Wednesday comedy block is up year to year in viewers (+9%) and young adults (+6%), marking its strongest start in 3 years - since the opening weeks of the 2011-12 season.

· ABC's blac-kish was up 13% week to week in Adults 18-49 to a 3-week high (since 10/8/14) and was the #1 series in the 9:30pm half-hour for its 4th straight telecast.

· Nashville was up for the 2nd week in row in Adults 18-49 (+7% - 1.5/4) to match a season high and equal its best number since last December (since 12/4/13). In addition the ABC sophomore drama was up 7% from its year-ago telecast. Nashville tied CBS' Stalker in the 10pm hour for the first time in the key sales demo.

The Goldbergs beat Survivor for the first time in the half-hour among Adults 18-34 (+8%). The ABC comedy continued to greatly improve its half-hour year to year with young adults (+24% over Back in the Game on 10/30/13 = 1.7/5). In addition, The Goldbergs bested its year-ago Tuesday airing coming out of S.H.I.E.L.D. "Nashville" caught CBS' "Stalker" in the hour for the first time among young adults.

· The ABC drama grew over its year-ago telecast (5.2 million and 1.4/4) in Total Viewers (+8%) and Adults 18-49 (+7%).

A note about increasing DVR penetration and year-to-year rating comparisons: Year-to-year rating comparisons based on the Live + Same Day data stream are distorted by the level of DVR penetration in the Nielsen sample, which has jumped up to 49% currently, from 48% at the same point in 2013. More viewers are watching shows on their own timetables, which may not be reflected in the overnight next day numbers. The only truly valid year-to-year comparison would be one based on the Live + 7 Day metric, once those stats are released by Nielsen.
