Thursday's Broadcast Ratings: "American Idol" Sparks Another Win for FOX

Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (1/28/16):

FOX (8.772 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #1) was still the top draw on Thursday with a new "American Idol" (8.622 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 2.2, #2) and a second hour of "American Idol" (8.924 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.4, #1).

CBS (7.317 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.5, #2) then claimed the silver with repeats of "The Big Bang Theory" (9.619 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.0, #3), "Mom" (7.603 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T5), another "The Big Bang Theory" (7.794 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.7, #4) and originals from "Angel from Hell" (6.706 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.4, #7) and "Elementary" (6.090 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T10).

Next up was NBC (6.189 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.4, #3) with the launch of "You, Me and the Apocalypse" (4.995 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.2, #9) alongside new episodes of "The Blacklist" (7.067 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T5) and "Shades of Blue" (6.507 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #8).

Meanwhile, ABC (2.721 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4) offered up the departing "Beyond the Tank" (4.009 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T10), a new "My Diet Is Better Than Yours" (2.030 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T13) and the season finale of "My Diet Is Better Than Yours" (2.124 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.7, #T13).

And finally, week two of "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" (2.841 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T10) and "The 100" (1.667 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.6, #15) on The CW (2.254 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.8, #T4) closed out the night.

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.7/4 with an encore; "Late Show," 0.4/2; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.5/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.1/4 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (1.2/4 in metered-market households with an encore) beat CBS's "Late Late Show" (0.9/3 with an encore). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, "Late Night" (0.5/3 in 18-49 with an encore) topped "Late Late Show" (0.2/1 with an encore).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.3/3 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (1/29/15):

ABC (9.400 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 3.1, #1) was the demo champ on Thursday thanks to the return of "Grey's Anatomy" (8.643 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 2.7, #5), "Scandal" (10.418 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 3.6, #2) and "How to Get Away with Murder" (9.138 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 3.0, #3).

CBS (10.156 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.3, #2) then took home second place with originals from "The Big Bang Theory" (17.004 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 4.4, #1), "Mom" (11.841 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 2.8, #4), "Two and a Half Men" (9.696 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.3, #6), "The McCarthys" (7.125 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.6, #9) and "Elementary" (7.635 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #12).

Next up was FOX (7.283 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.8, #3) with week two of its "American Idol" (9.240 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.2, #7) and "Backstrom" (5.325 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T10) combo.

Meanwhile, NBC (5.363 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.5, #4) served up the season finale of "The Biggest Loser" (5.310 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T10) plus the series finale of "Parenthood" (5.470 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.7, #8).

And finally, new episodes of "The Vampire Diaries" (1.453 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.7, #13) and "Reign" (1.041 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.4, #14) on The CW (1.247 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.5, #5) closed out the night. In the netlet's target demo (women 18-34), "Diaries" delivered a 1.0 rating at 8:00/7:00c and "Reign" a 0.6 rating at 9:00/8:00c.
