Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: FOX Tops Demos, CBS Leads Viewers

Here are the highlights of the 17 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (10/4/17):

FOX (5.234 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1) was back in front among adults 18-49 on Wednesday with new episodes of "Empire" (5.824 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T1) and "Star" (4.644 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T5).

CBS (7.509 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2) then was the most-watched network with its trio of "Survivor: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers" (8.006 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T3), "SEAL Team" (8.358 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T9) and "Criminal Minds" (6.164 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #11).

Sharing the silver was ABC (5.209 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T2) and its lineup of "The Goldbergs" (5.723 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T3), "Speechless" (4.591 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T7), "Modern Family" (6.346 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.9, #T1), "American Housewife" (4.937 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T5) and "Designated Survivor" (4.829 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.9, #13).

Meanwhile, NBC (5.890 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #4) offered up originals from "The Blacklist" (5.774 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.0, #12), "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit" (5.766 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.3, #T7) and "Chicago PD" (6.130 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.2, #T9).

And finally, The CW (1.013 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.3, #5) closed out the night with repeats of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.238 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14), another "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" (1.196 million viewers, #15; adults 18-49: 0.3, #T14), "Masters of Illusion" (0.829 million viewers, #16; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T16) and another "Masters of Illusion" (0.788 million viewers, #17; adults 18-49: 0.2, #T16).

· In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, adult 18-49 results were: "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon," 0.6/3; "Late Show," 0.5/3; and "Jimmy Kimmel Live," 0.6/3.

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.3/5 in metered-market households and a 0.4/3 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers," 1.2/5 in metered-market households; CBS's "Late Late Show," 1.1/4. In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night," 0.4/3 in 18-49; "Late Late Show," 0.2/2.

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.7/3 in metered-market households and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.


Here are the highlights of the 15 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks one year ago (10/5/16):

FOX (7.859 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 2.5, #1) held onto the top spot on Wednesday with week three of "Lethal Weapon" (6.476 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.7, #6) and "Empire" (9.242 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 3.3, #1).

The silver then went to ABC (6.504 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.8, #2) with originals from "The Goldbergs" (6.327 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T3), "Speechless" (6.103 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.8, #T3), "Modern Family" (7.031 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.2, #2), "Black-ish" (5.367 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T7) and "Designated Survivor" (7.099 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.6, #T7).
