Wednesday's Broadcast Ratings: Return of "Empire," "Star" Keep FOX on Top in 18-49

Here are the highlights of the 14 ad-sustained programs that aired in primetime on the broadcast networks last night (3/28/18):

FOX (5.418 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.7, #1) was still the demo champ on Wednesday with the return of "Empire" (6.140 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 2.0, #1) and "Star" (4.697 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.5, #3).

Second place then went to CBS (7.053 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.2, #2) with its mix of "Survivor: Ghost Island" (8.111 million viewers, #1; adults 18-49: 1.7, #2), "SEAL Team" (6.539 million viewers, #3; adults 18-49: 1.0, #9) and "Criminal Minds" (6.510 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7).

Next up was NBC (5.698 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.1, #3) with its specials "The Voice: Best of Blinds and Battles" (6.879 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.3, #6) and "Andrew Lloyd Webber Tribute to a Superstar" (3.337 million viewers, #12; adults 18-49: 0.6, #12).

Meanwhile, ABC (4.417 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 1.0, #4) offered up a new "The Goldbergs" (5.438 million viewers, #6; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T4) followed by the premiere of "Alex, Inc." (4.589 million viewers, #9; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T7), a new "Modern Family" (5.348 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.4, #T4), a repeat of "Splitting Up Together" (3.446 million viewers, #11; adults 18-49: 0.8, #10) and an original "Designated Survivor" (3.841 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 0.7, #11).

And finally, new episodes of "Riverdale" (0.977 million viewers, #13; adults 18-49: 0.3, #13) and "Life Sentence" (0.424 million viewers, #14; adults 18-49: 0.1, #14) rounded out the night on The CW (0.700 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 0.2, #5).

· From 12:35-1:05 a.m. ET, ABC's "Nightline" averaged a 1.0/3 in metered-market households and a 0.3/2 in 18-49 in the Local People Meters.

· From 12:35-1:35 a.m. ET, ratings were: "Late Night with Seth Meyers" (0.8/3 in metered-market households with an encore); CBS's "Late Late Show" (1.2/4). In the 25 markets with Local People Meters, averages were: "Late Night" (0.2/2 in 18-49 with an encore); "Late Late Show" (0.2/2).

· At 1:35 a.m., "Last Call with Carson Daly" averaged a 0.5/2 in metered-market households with an encore and a 0.2/2 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

ABC (5.538 million viewers, #2; adults 18-49: 1.4, #2) then was the silver draw with its mix of "The Goldbergs" (6.007 million viewers, #5; adults 18-49: 1.7, #T3), the premiere of "Imaginary Mary" (5.367 million viewers, #7; adults 18-49: 1.4, #6), "Modern Family" (6.675 million viewers, #4; adults 18-49: 2.0, #2), "Black-ish" (4.950 million viewers, #10; adults 18-49: 1.5, #5) and "Designated Survivor" (5.115 million viewers, #8; adults 18-49: 1.1, #T8).
