What We Watched the First Half of 2025

Today, we're sharing our latest Engagement Report, highlighting what Netflix members watched from January through June 2025. Watchtime - or engagement - is our best indicator of member happiness. When people watch more, they stick around longer and recommend Netflix to others.

This report, which captures ~99% of all viewing in the first half of 2025, shows that people watched a lot of Netflix - over 95B hours - spanning a wide range of genres and languages. It's why we continue to invest in a variety of quality titles for various moods and tastes and work hard to make them great.

Here are some highlights from the first half of 2025:

Enduring Appeal of Netflix Originals

Netflix Originals continue to engage audiences years after they premiered. Nearly half of viewing for Netflix Originals in this report came from titles that debuted in 2023 or earlier.

Shows like Orange Is the New Black, Ozark and Money Heist all had over 100M hours viewed in the first half of 2025.

Movies like Red Notice, Leo and We Can Be Heroes each had more than 20M views.

Great Stories Can Come From Anywhere

Popular series continue to come from the UK. Adolescence was the #1 most-watched show with 145M views, with audiences also enjoying other series like Missing You (58M), Black Mirror Season 7 (31M) and Dept. Q Season 1 (25M).

More than one-third of all viewing came from non-English language titles, and 10 of the 25 most-watched series in the first half of the year were non-English.

Squid Game, the South Korean hit series, drew 231M views across all three seasons in the first half of the year. Its final season became our third most-watched program of the half, reaching 72M views in just four days.

Other South Korean series also shined, with When Life Gives You Tangerines (35M), The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call Season 1 (34M) and both Weak Hero: Class 1 (22M) and Weak Hero: Class 2 (20M) attracting large audiences.

Scandinavian titles are growing in popularity, with Secrets We Keep (34M) from Denmark, Number 24 (24M) from Norway and The Åre Murders Season 1 (33M), The Breakthrough (29M) and The Glass Dome (20M) from Sweden.

Following the release of last year's One Hundred Years of Solitude (5M), Colombia continued to deliver a strong slate with Medusa Season 1 (21M), Fake Profile: Killer Match (20M) and Karol G: Tomorrow was Beautiful (13M).

Netflix films such as Back in Action (165M), Tyler Perry's STRAW (103M), The Life List (96M) starring Sofia Carson, and Nonnas (58M) were widely watched. Non-English language films also found global success, including Exterritorial (88M) from Germany, Counterattack (71M) from Mexico, iHostage (57M) from the Netherlands, Ad Vitam (70M) and K.O. (44M) from France, Bullet Train Explosion (33M) from Japan and Jewel Thief - The Heist Begins (23M) from India.

Variety, Variety, Variety

Audiences on Netflix enjoy a variety of shows, films and live events.

WWE premiered on Netflix in January and is now bringing fans together live every week. In the first half it generated more than 280M view hours across all its events, including WWE RAW.

Netflix is a destination for anime fans, with audiences watching new series like SAKAMOTO DAYS Season 1 (24M), beloved franchises like Naruto (45M across seasons) and classic films like Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away (6M) and Howl's Moving Castle (6M).

Dramas continued to thrill with Zero Day (61M), American Primeval (47M), The Gardener (34M) from Spain, FOREVER Season 1 (19M) and The Royals Season 1 from India (14M).

Comedies of all kinds were also popular. New shows like Running Point Season 1 (41M) and The Four Seasons Season 1 (39M) were widely watched and renewed for second seasons. Returning series like Alpha Males Season 3 from Spain (10M), Envious Season 2 from Argentina (10M), Tires Season 2 (7M) and Survival of the Thickest Season 2 (6M) were also loved. Long-running hits Cobra Kai Season 6 (18M) and Big Mouth Season 8 (6M) closed out their final seasons on a high note.
