DESCRIPTION:
(from Viceland's press release, December 2016) "RISE," premiering at the prestigious 2017 Sundance Film Festival, (Tuesday, JANUARY 27 @ 9:00 PM) is a vibrant, gripping, and immersive documentary series that takes viewers to the frontlines of global Indigenous resistance. With two of its eight episodes chronicling the never-before-seen seeds of the historic Standing Rock Sioux protest of the Dakota Access Pipeline and the still-developing aftermath now that the cameras and celebrities have left, filmmaker Michelle Latimer and host Sarain Fox -- both Indigenous women themselves -- delve into the Indigenous resistance movement in North America to examine the social and political factors that threaten their liberation in the 21st century. "RISE" is, at once, a condemnation of colonialism and a celebration of Indigenous people worldwide. "RISE" is produced by VICE Studio Canada, in partnership with Rogers Media and APTN.
