WGN AMERICA RELEASES THE FIRST TEASER FOR SEASON TWO OF ITS CRITICALLY ACCLAIMED DRAMA "MANHATTAN," RETURNING IN OCTOBER 2015
WGN America today reveals the first teaser for the second season of "Manhattan," the explosive series that Time Magazine described as "the TV season's secret weapon." The first-look teaser for the critically acclaimed drama, returning this October, begs the question: "How much evil does it take to do good." The series, created by Sam Shaw and directed by Emmy Award(R)-winning director Thomas Schlamme, follows the tangled lives of the residents of Los Alamos, New Mexico, as they race to detonate the first nuclear bomb in history. Locked away in the world's most secretive city, the scientists and their families surrender their freedoms, compromise their marriages, and even sacrifice their sanity to end one bloody war and usher in another - the Cold War waiting just over the atomic horizon - all while foreign spies and a climate of paranoia threaten to destroy the project from within.
"Manhattan" was recently honored with 2015 SXSW Jury Award for Excellence in Title Design, illustrated by Dan Gregoras from Imaginary Forces. Additionally, Director of Photography John Lindley, won the American Society of Cinematographers' Outstanding Achievement Award in a Television Movie, Miniseries, or Pilot for his work on the season one premiere episode, "You Always Hurt the One You Love."
The season two ensemble cast of "Manhattan" includes: Emmy(R)-nominated actor John Benjamin Hickey ("The Big C," "The Good Wife") as Frank Winter, a brilliant and conflicted physicist who helped design the world's first weapon of mass destruction and who's now beginning to question how it will be used; Olivia Williams ("Rushmore," "The Ghost Writer") as his wife, Liza Winter, an accomplished scientist in her own right who battles the Hill's draconian security state presided over by Col. Emmett Darrow, the new ranking military officer played by Golden Globe-nominated actor William Petersen ("CSI: Crime Scene Investigation"); Ashley Zukerman ("Rush") and Rachel Brosnahan ("House of Cards"), who play Charlie and Abby Isaacs, a young couple who will both embrace and struggle with their unexpected new power on The Hill; Katja Herbers ("The Americans," "De Storm") as Helen Prins; Christopher Denham ("Argo," "Shutter Island") as Jim Meeks; Harry Lloyd ("Game of Thrones") as Paul Crosley; Michael Chernus ("The Big C," "Orange Is The New Black") as Louis "Fritz" Fedowitz; and Daniel Stern ("Home Alone," "Home Alone 2") as Glen Babbit. New to the cast for season two are Mamie Gummer ("The Good Wife," "Cake") as Nora, a member of the Women's Army Corps who undergoes a political awakening when she's assigned to a post at Los Alamos; and Emmy- and Golden Globe-nominated actor Griffin Dunne, who will recur as Woodrow Lorentzen, a journalist who stumbles upon Los Alamos, New Mexico - including the secret crew trying to successfully detonate the world's first nuclear bomb - and a shot at personal redemption.
