"CRISTÓBAL BALENCIAGA" DISNEY+ SHARES NEW FOOTAGE IN TRAILER FOR ORIGINAL SERIES PREMIERING EXCLUSIVELY ON JANUARY 19
Alberto San Juan plays Cristóbal Balenciaga in the first series by award-winning directors Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño and Jose Mari Goenaga ("La trinchera infinita", "Loreak", "Handia"), inspired by the life of the Spanish creator during his years in Paris, from 1937 onwards.
LONDON, UK. (December 18, 2023). Disney+ has shared new images in the official trailer for "Cristóbal Balenciaga," the original drama series that recreates the life and legacy of the Guetaria-born Spanish creator, one of the most iconic fashion designers of all time. The series arrives exclusively on Disney+ on January 19 with all episodes available.
ABOUT THE SERIES
In the series, created by Lourdes Iglesias and 12-time Goya award winners Aitor Arregi, Jon Garaño, and Jose Mari Goenaga ("The Endless Trench"), actor Alberto San Juan plays Cristóbal Balenciaga, an enigmatic and extraordinarily talented man who defied the social conventions of the time and revolutionized the world of fashion. Today, Disney+ has shared the first trailer for "Cristóbal Balenciaga," the original series that will mark the beginning of 2024.
"Cristobal Balenciaga" begins as the designer presents his first Parisian haute couture collection in 1937. He has left behind a successful career in his ateliers in Madrid and San Sebastian dressing the Spanish elite and aristocracy. However, the designs that had set the trend in Spain don't quite work in the sophisticated fashion empire that Paris has become, where Chanel, Dior and Givenchy are the benchmark of haute couture. Guided by his obsession for control in all aspects of his life, Cristóbal Balenciaga will define his style and eventually become one of the most important designers of all time.
"Cristóbal Balenciaga" stars Alberto San Juan and an international cast of actors who bring to life renowned characters of the 20th century. Among them are Belén Cuesta (Fabiola de Mora y Aragón); Josean Bengoetxea (San Sebastian businessman Nicolás Bizkarrondo); Cecilia Solaguren (his wife, Virgilia Mendizabal); Adam Quintero (Ramón Esparza, the designer's partner and collaborator); Thomas Coumans (Wladzio D'Attainville, Cristóbal Balenciaga's partner and business partner); Gemma Whelan (Prudence Glynn, journalist for The Times); Anouk Grinberg (Coco Chanel); Gabrielle Lazure (Carmel Snow, fashion director of Harper's Bazaar); Patrice Thibaud (Christian Dior); Nine d'Urso (model Colette); and Anna-Victoire Olivier (actress Audrey Hepburn).
On the technical side of "Cristóbal Balenciaga", the team is made up of outstanding professionals. Among others, composer Alberto Iglesias, winner of 11 Goya Awards, nominated 19 times, and four time Academy Award nominee, three time Bafta Award nominee and two time Golden Globes nominee, is responsible for the original soundtrack; Bina Daigeler, Academy Award nominee for the live-action film "Mulan" by The Walt Disney Studios and Emmy Award nominee for the costume design of "Mrs. America", is the costume designer of "Cristóbal Balenciaga", along with her collaborator Pepo Ruiz Dorado; Javier Agirre Erauso (Goya Award winer for "The Giant") is the director of photography; Mikel Serrano (Goya winner for "The Giant" and "Akelarre") is the art director; Karmele Soler (Goya Award winner for "The Skin I live in") is the makeup artist.
The series is produced by Xabier Berzosa through Moriarti Produkzioak e Irusoin. MoriartiProdukzioak was founded in 2001 and since then they have produced five fiction films, three documentary films and a dozen short films and television documentaries.
