Japanese Drama Series 'S&X' Unveils Main Trailer, Key Art and Stills Ahead of August 20 Premiere
Netflix has released the main trailer, key art, and stills for S&X, the new Japanese drama series starring Kento Nakajima, premiering August 20.
Based on Motoo Tada's manga S&X: The Confession of Therapist Ichito Shimotori (serialized by Kodansha in Morning magazine), the series is set at Shimotori Clinic, where sex therapist Ichito Shimotori treats patients wrestling with deeply personal struggles they can't bring themselves to tell anyone else - sexless relationships, erectile dysfunction, sex addiction, sexual trauma, and more. Even when he's met with snickers and prejudice, Shimotori handles each patient with sincerity and unwavering care through counseling. Yet he, too, secretly carries his own unresolved pain...
Kento Nakajima, a longtime fixture of Japan's entertainment scene, breaks new ground as Shimotori, a therapist who steadfastly supports clients carrying all kinds of sexual worries. This marks his second leading role in a Netflix production, following the bittersweet romance Love Like the Falling Petals.
Yuko Araki plays the woman who crosses paths with Shimotori in a fateful reunion. They are joined by a stellar ensemble spanning generations, including Ryota Miura, Sawako Fujima, Aoi Nakamura, Rinka Kumada, Sayaka Yamaguchi, Yūsuke Santamaria, and Shiro Sano.
Director Shogo Kusano, known for fresh, emotionally rich youth and romance dramas, takes a premise that could easily tip into sensationalism and turns it into something more grounded: an adult drama about real people navigating work, love, and sexuality - one that resonates deeply with anyone who has ever struggled with intimacy.
By treating sexuality as something deeply connected to how we express love and how we see our own self-worth, not just biology, this story invites viewers to re-examine their relationships and themselves, and to confront what it truly means to love.
S&X is a love story for every adult carrying their own quiet worries. The series premieres August 20, only on Netflix.
