BRAVO ASKS FOR AMERICA'S VOTE FOR THE BEST SITCOM TO DETERMINE THE WINNER OF 'SITUATION: COMEDY'
VOTING BEGINS ON FRIDAY, AUGUST 26 AT 7:00 P.M. ET EXCLUSIVELY ON AOL.COM
NEW YORK August 25, 2005 Audiences of Bravo's "Situation: Comedy" have had a first-hand look at the making of a sitcom--watching the entire creative process through casting, set design, rewrites, rehearsals, taping and post-production. Starting tomorrow, these viewers can log on to the AOL.com Web site AOL.com/situationcomedy to view the two final 15-minute sitcom presentations, "Stephen's Life" and "Sperm Donor," and cast their vote for the one they think deserves to be the next great sitcom. The presentation with the most votes will ultimately be named the winner, with its creators receiving a cash prize and exclusive representation for one year with a major Hollywood talent agency to further help launch a successful writing career in film or television.
Viewers will have one week to view the sitcom presentations and cast their votes, beginning at 7:00 pm/et on Friday, August 26, during the East Coast airing of the sixth episode of the series, and closing at 11:59 pm/et on Friday, September 2. The winner will be revealed in the finale episode airing Friday, September 9 at 7:00 pm/et on Bravo. Voting is limited to one vote per person a day and is open to all legal residents of the United States over the age of 13.
The producers of "Situation: Comedy" have scoured the country looking for the hottest undiscovered writing talent at colleges, in comedy theater groups and even writing classes. Each candidate submitted an original sitcom script. Over 10,000 scripts were received, from which only five semi-finalist writers were flown to Los Angeles, where they were thrown into the deep end of the creative pitching pool. They submitted their ideas to NBC network executives who green-lighted two of the scripts to go into production as 15-minute presentations - shot by two very recognizable directors, Fred Savage ("The Wonder Years") and Amanda Bearse ("Married with Children").
"Situation: Comedy" was developed by Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Multiple Emmy-winners Arnold Shapiro and Allison Grodner are executive producers together with Hayes and Milliner. "Situation: Comedy" is a HazyMills production in association with Shapiro/Grodner Productions.
