Two New Designers, Tanya Mcqueen and Daniel Kucan, Join the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" Team

[via press release from ABC]

TWO NEW DESIGNERS, TANYA MCQUEEN AND DANIEL KUCAN, JOIN THE "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" TEAM

Interior designers Tanya McQueen and Daniel Kucan join the "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" team this season. They join team leader and carpenter Ty Pennington, along with Paul DiMeo (carpentry/attitude), Paige Hemmis (carpentry/nut & bolts), Michael Moloney (interiors/glamour), Constance Ramos (building/planning), Ed Sanders (construction), Preston Sharp (exteriors/big ideas) and Eduardo Xol (landscaping).

McQueen began her career in design and construction through the hands-on approach. After working closely with architects, conceptualizing and designing custom homes, she set about working hand in hand with the contractors. Through these close working relationships, she discovered her interest in the artistic approach of designing and creating beautiful spaces within the homes.

McQueen then decided to put a twist on things and focus on her passion, which was designing and decorating. After much thought, she invited her friend, a licensed designer, to join her in this exciting adventure, and thus a wonderfully successful and fulfilling business was begun, Tattered Hydrangea. The strength of Tattered Hydrangea is that McQueen and her partner are able to find already existing properties that others have deemed unworthy or lacking in style, layout or architectural integrity, and turn them into the showplace of the neighborhood.

McQueen's design approach integrates diverse and unique ways of decorating, and while some of her concepts allow for financial compromise, others require full out lavishness. No place is off limits when searching or perusing for that "perfect" piece. McQueen has been known to scavenge in many out of the way and even 'undesirable' locations, while also loving to shop the one-of-a-kind boutiques.

From the age of seven, Daniel Kucan grew up in a strict theater conservatory in Las Vegas, where he began his education in design and carpentry. Over the next eleven years he developed an edgy, dramatic style, and quickly became known as an artist who made rules up as he went along. Going from one extreme to another, Kucan then attended New York University, where he added a hip, global perspective to his style and embraced the East Village Rock and Roll aesthetic of the downtown crowd.

After graduating from NYU, Kucan moved back to the west coast and became the lead designer for Hollywood's ultra current and eclectic Mortise and Tenon on La Brea, where his sense of neoteric cool found a warm home among the trendy Hollywood elite. With the ability to actually construct the furniture he designs, his creations take on a fresh and personal vibe that makes each one a distinct and unconventional work of originality.

Combining a strong sense of tradition with an urban mentality, Kucan has little use for the prosaic, choosing instead to redefine the relationships between line, texture and spatial semblance. He is also a prolific world traveler, and often gains inspiration from the most obscure sources. This global awareness has instilled in him a tenacious commitment to building in recycled and renewable materials, often resulting in striking compositions of offbeat character.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. David Goldberg is President of Endemol USA. The series is executive-produced by Tom Forman and premiered December 3, 2003, on the ABC Television Network. It will have its season premiere on Sunday, September 25, 2005.
