OPUS DEI AND THE DA VINCI CODE, A ONE-HOUR SPECIAL IN ASSOCIATION WITH FAITH & VALUES MEDIA, EXCLUSIVE U.S. PREMIERE ONLY ON HALLMARK CHANNEL JUNE 4
Code to Live Life Authentically at the Heart of Nations Top-Grossing
Box Office Hit, The Da Vinci Code
With the controversial novel still setting best-seller lists on fire and the blockbuster
film adaptation currently in theaters, Hallmark Channel, in association with Faith & Values
Media, presents the U.S. television premiere of the documentary Opus Dei and The Da
Vinci Code, premiering Sunday, June 4 (10pm/9c).
The producers of Opus Dei and The Da Vinci Code were granted exclusive and
unprecedented access to Opus Dei, the Catholic organization which plays a large role in the
book and movie versions of The Da Vinci Code. Examining the myths that circulate about
Opus Dei, journalist and former monk Mark Dowd visits Opus Dei centers around the world,
including the group's $69 million New York headquarters, known as the Tower of Power.
The documentary also features interviews with one of Opus Deis leaders, existing and
former members of the organization, and renowned authors on the subject, as Dowd
explores whether Opus Dei is a splinter cult group of the Catholic Church or the victim of an
undeserved bad reputation. Opus Dei began in 1928 after priest Josemari Escrivi had a
vision in which followers of Christ could live a disciplined life in a burgeoning society, living
more authentically in faith with the world.
It is an absolutely intriguing subject, said David Kenin, Executive Vice President,
Programming, Hallmark Channels.
The producers spent three years interviewing members of Opus Dei. The
documentary looks at some of the issues the movie portrays and whether or not those
representations are fair, Mr. Kenin concluded.
Opus Dei and The Da Vinci Code was produced by Canadas CCTV and had its
world premiere on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom.
