PAKISTANI PRESIDENT PERVEZ MUSHARRAF TO APPEAR ON "THE DAILY SHOW WITH JON STEWART" TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 AT 11:00 P.M.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NEW YORK, September 25, 2006 -- General Pervez Musharraf, President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, will appear as a guest on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" on Tuesday, September 26 at 11:00 p.m. (ET/PT). President Musharraf will discuss his sensational memoir, In the Line of Fire (Free Press), which goes on sale today, as well as his and Pakistan's role in the war on terror and provide his views on the current state of affairs in the Middle East.

The son of middle class, educated and working parents who migrated from India upon the creation of Pakistan, President Musharraf, who will be making his first appearance as a guest on "The Daily Show," has lived his life as a career military man, rising through the ranks of Pakistan's military until his appointment as Chief of Army Staff in 1998. He subsequently became President during a counter-coup and now leads one of the most crucial countries in the world and has become a major player in the world's hope for peace and stability.

In an extraordinary, unprecedented act for a sitting head of state in such a crucial position, President Musharraf's In the Line of Fire tells the complete, unadulterated, inside story of his astounding life and career. Revelations fill every section of this book: from details of many raids on Al Qaeda, both in the cities and mountains, to the hunt for Osama bin Laden and the infiltration of the Al Qaeda network, to the multiple assassination attempts and how Musharraf survived them. He offers new details about frightening confrontations with India, about the coup and counter-coup that brought him to power, and about the struggle between moderate and radical factions within Islam. Pakistan is a crucial country in world politics -- it is a country with nuclear capacity, with a sworn enemy in India right next door, and a relationship with the United States that puts President Musharraf in a precarious position of deadly, daily danger. His candid thoughts on 9/11 and its aftermath, on Israel, on bin Laden and Al Qaeda and on the status of women in Pakistan are sure to make headlines.

The nine-time Emmy and two-time Peabody Award-winning "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" was launched in the summer of 1996. The nightly news satire takes a reality-based look at news, trends, pop culture, current events, politics, sports, entertainment and the media. In each show, Stewart and a team of correspondents, including Dan Bakkedahl, Samantha Bee, Jason Jones and John Oliver, comment on the day's stories employing actual news footage, taped field pieces, in-studio guests and on-the-spot coverage of important news events.

Jon Stewart and Ben Karlin are the executive producers of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" with Kahane Corn serving as co executive producer. The series' head writer is David Javerbaum who is also supervising producer. Chuck O'Neil is the director.

Each episode of "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" repeats at 1:00 a.m. the same night and at 8:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. the following day.
