NEW YORK, July 30, 2007 -- Mike Birbiglia, comedian and author of the popular blog and syndicated radio segment "My Secret Public Journal" is hitting the road this summer. Kicking off on Sunday, August 19 at Eastern Carolina University in Greenville, NC, "COMEDY CENTRAL Live: Mike Birbiglia's Secret Public Tour" will travel to over 30 cities nationwide (see list at the end of the release) in support of "My Secret Public Journal Live" CD to be released via COMEDY CENTRAL Records on September 25. The tour is sponsored by Wendy's.
"COMEDY CENTRAL Live: Mike Birbiglia's Secret Public Tour" will include "secret special guests" who will join Birbiglia on tour with a rotating roster of comedians and indie musicians.
COMEDY CENTRAL Records will release "My Secret Public Journal Live" CD on September 25. The CD features Birbiglia delving deeper into storytelling and revealing his most painful stories in a style that has made him popular with audiences of all ages. It closes with an acoustic ballad entitled, "Put It On Paper," a call to action for listeners to write down their most embarrassing moments to keep things in perspective.
The New York Post hails Mike Birbiglia as "on the cusp of comic greatness." For the past six years, Birbiglia has toured the country honing the act that made him one of the youngest comedians to ever appear on "The Late Show with David Letterman" and popularized the phrase Cracker Please as well as renaming George W. Bush Whiffle Ball Tony.
Birbiglia is a talk show regular and the star of two "COMEDY CENTRAL Presents" half-hour stand-up specials. What has truly galvanized his fan base is his Secret Public Journal, a weekly blog that the performer emails to 30,000 fans and broadcasts to millions on the nationally-syndicated radio show "Bob & Tom." These personal autobiographical diary entries, which evoke the nostalgic tone of David Sedaris and Bill Cosby have truly defined Birbiglias public persona.
"COMEDY CENTRAL Live!" is the network's successful live comedy venture working with today's leading stand-up comedians. The tours feature the hottest stand-up comedians on the scene including Dave Attell, Lewis Black, Drew Carey, Dave Chappelle, Jim Gaffigan, Demetri Martin, Carlos Mencia, Brian Regan and Wanda Sykes.
COMEDY CENTRAL, the only all-comedy network, currently is seen in more than 91 million homes nationwide. COMEDY CENTRAL is owned by, and is a registered trademark of, Comedy Partners, a wholly-owned division of VIACOM Inc.'s (NYSE: VIA and VIA.B) MTV Networks.
