By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

ROYAL PAINS (USA) - Jill Flint ("Six Degrees") has joined the cast of the 90-minute drama pilot, about an ex-ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) who becomes the on-call doctor for the rich denizens of the Hamptons. She's set as Jill Casey, a local hospital administrator. Jace Alexander is helming the project off a script by creator Andrew Lenchewski.

SURVIVING SUBURBIA (The CW) - Jared Kusnitz and G Hannelius are the latest additions to the netlet's upcoming comedy, about Keith (Bob Saget), a misanthropic family man in suburbia trying his best to be left alone. They'll play Henry and Courtney, Keith and Anne's (Cynthia Stevenson) kids. In addition, Jere Burns ("Help Me Help You") is set to recur as Dr. Jim, Keith's best friend and neighbor, who's a dentist.

UNTITLED VALERIE BERTINELLI PROJECT (TBS) - Anjelah Johnson ("Mad TV") and Juliette Goglia ("Joan of Arcadia") have both been cast in the comedy pilot, about Claire (Valerie Bertinelli), who is raising two teens while running a lumber business. Johnson is playing Marla, whom the casting notice further details as follows: "20s, all ethnicities, a slacker who likes to doodle. Marla is the ditsy, chemically-altered cashier at the lumber yard. Still at work in spite of the fact that Gary (Claire's ex) looted the store and stopped cutting checks, Marla is the last employee standing -- actually, she's sitting and doodling. Hopelessly clueless about lumber and hardware and everything else the yard has for sale, Marla is eager and willing to help Claire run things -- but together their knowledge of lumber adds up to a negative number."

Goglia then is set as Kelsey Peterson: "To play 12 years old. The younger child of Claire Peterson, Kelsey is cute and status-conscious, wrongly convinced that her mother is so busy obsessing over her divorce that she never thinks of her only daughter. But at the same time, she objects fiercely to her mother's efforts to control her fashion choices, and can't seem to make up her mind if Claire is a dictator or an absentee mom. A very strong-willed little girl who wears the requisite Uggs with a very short skirt, she's mortified when she's outed at school as braless, and tries to over-compensate by buying herself a padded brassiere, suitable for a waitress at Hooters." Dave Caplan is behind the half-hour, which is based at Sony Pictures Television.
