Network Signs Jacob Soboroff to Host Programming Strand Covering Premieres, Film Festivals, Current Events and Industry Events
New York, NY - AMC announced today AMC News, a newly created short-form programming strand covering entertainment news including film premieres, major film festivals, and industry award events. To host, AMC News, the network has signed Jacob Soboroff. This latest expansion fully leverages the value of AMC's vast movie catalog while providing a viewing atmosphere and destination unique to basic cable.
"Launching AMC News expands our movie brand and enables us to be current in the genres of film, entertainment and pop-culture," stated AMC's SVP of Programming, Production and Digital Content, Joel Stillerman. "Jacob Soboroff's unique style and talent coupled with this new news division builds a unique viewing experience on AMC that caters to the demands of our targeted viewers."
Under the AMC News umbrella is Opening Night where each Friday night the network highlights one film by covering its red carpet gala premiere. Road to the Red Carpet brings the network to major industry events including the Golden Globes and the Emmy Awards where Soboroff obtains interviews with the nominees and past winners. AMC News will also travel to film festivals to include Toronto, Sundance, Cannes, Tribeca and others to report on the day to day activities and to obtain exclusive interviews. Lastly, viewers can expect Soboroff to provide original reporting and commentary on politics, pop-culture and all things celebrity. Online, at AMCtv.com users can experience blogs, vlogs and the production of exclusive original content all under the AMC News banner.
Prior to AMC, Soboroff has been Executive Director of Why Tuesday?, a nonpartisan group working to increase voter participation. His work there earned him a 2008 Los Angeles Press Club National Entertainment Journalism Award, a Film Your Issue Award and a Webby Award nomination. He is also a regular contributor to NPR Weekend Edition Sunday on-air and online. Jacob was a contributor to the PBS and WIRED magazine series WIRED Science. He has an MA in political theory and philosophy from NYU.
