THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE/CHLOE GAMBLE (The CW, New!) - Ashton Kutcher's CBS Paramount Network Television-based Katalyst Films has lined up a pair of drama projects at the netlet. First up is "The Beautiful Life," which centers on male and female models who live together in New York. Model-turned-writer Adam Giaudrone ("Swingtown") is penning the script, based on his own experiences, and will serve as a supervising producer. Carol Barbee ("Jericho") is also attached to executive produce. It's understood the lead characters will be Christopher, a 22-year-old "destined for the JC Penney catalog," and 15-year-old Reyna, "destined to become the next Heidi Klum," while the project itself will focus on the darker side of the modeling industry. Then there's "Chloe Gamble," which focuses on a Texas girl who, beauty queen trophies in hand, moves to Hollywood with her mother and twin brother in the hopes of achieving stardom. Ed Decter and John Strauss ("There's Something About Mary") are behind the hour, which is based on the upcoming young adult book series "The One" from Simon Pulse. As for specifics, "Gamble" is told from the point of view of the future, when it's apparent that things didn't turn out so well for Chloe, while the show itself will feature a major web component that may even be used for casting. Kutcher is executive producing both projects alongside fellow Katalyst principals Karey Burke and Jason Goldberg.
NCIS (CBS) - Entertainment Weekly is reporting a spin-off of the Tuesday ratings juggernaut is being considered by Eye executives. Speculation suggests that like "NCIS" itself, which was set up via two backdoor pilot installments of "JAG," the spin-off would likewise be set up in an upcoming episode of the parent show. Said news likely puts the previously rumored spin-off of "Criminal Minds" on hold for the time being.
THINGS A MAN SHOULD NEVER DO PAST 30 (CBS, New!) - Esquire contributing editor David Katz and editor at large A.J. Jacobs have scored a script commitment from the Eye for a new single-camera comedy about a guy working at men's magazine who is reluctant to embrace adulthood and his friend who is an immersion journalist. The project is loosely based on the pair's experiences while the title comes from Katz's book of the same name. Al Higgins ("Malcolm in the Middle") has been tapped to supervise the duo and serve as showrunner should it move forward. "Things" is set up at the Tannenbaum Co. and Sony Pictures Television with Barry Sonnenfeld attached to direct and executive produce.
