BOARDWALK EMPIRE (HBO) - Michael Pitt ("Funny Games") is in talks to join the cast of Martin Scorsese's drama pilot for the network, which chronicles the 1920s origins of Atlantic City. He'll join the previously cast Steve Buscemi and Kelly Macdonald in the hour, which Scorsese is directing from a script by Terrence Winter based on Nelson Johnson's book of the same name. Pitt would play Jimmy Darmody, a low-level flunky for Buscemi's Nucky Johnson character, a cunning businessman who runs a liquor distribution ring at the onset of Prohibition. Darmody is further detailed as young, highly intelligent and a ruthless WWI veteran. Scorsese and Winter then are executive producing alongside Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson.
LAST WORDS (TNT, New!) - J. Michael Straczynski ("Babylon 5") is developing a new series at the cable channel described as "a dramatic series with a paranormal thrust." The project is set up at DreamWorks Television with the company's principals Darryl Frank and Justin Falvey presumably executive producing alongside Straczynski. TNT was home to several "Babylon 5" telefilms as well as the short-lived spin-off series "Crusade."
