Vikings, Samurai, Barbarians, Medieval Knights... The World's Heroic Warriors Examined In New HISTORY Series WARRIORS With Terry Schappert, Green Beret in the US Army Special Forces

DEBUTS THURSDAY, MARCH 12 at 10:00pm ET/PT on HISTORY

New York, February 18, 2009 What does it take to be a warrior? Travel the globe alongside Green Beret Terry Schappert, in an action-packed journey as he experiences the training, rituals and weapons of history's most iconic warrior cultures. WARRIORS premieres Thursday, March 12 at 10:00pm ET/PT on HISTORY.

Terry probes deeply into the spirit of an ancient warrior from Vikings, Samurai, Barbarians and Knights revealing a side of these fighters that is seldom seen and rarely understood. Because Terry is a Special Forces soldier, he genuinely relates to warriors of the past, helping viewers understand what made them fight and die for causes greater than themselves.

Throwing the battle ax of a Viking, firing the ballista of a Roman legion, experiencing the time honored rites of the Samurai and the chivalric traditions of the English Knight Terry fully immerses himself into each warrior culture. Learning first hand the ingenious technology of their ancient weapons and bringing dramatic history to life.

WARRIORS takes viewers to the very lands on which these ancient forces fought from the jungles of Central America to the savannahs of South Africa. In each episode, Terry shows that to truly understand the warrior, you need to walk the hallowed ground where history happened. There, he is joined by experts, moving beyond the stereotypes and revealing new insight about who these men really were. Walking in their footsteps also proves to be a profound and moving experience for Terry. It's all part of his amazing journey to discover the heart of a warrior.

Terry began his military career 17 years ago with the 82nd Airborne Division. While assigned to a recon squad, he completed Ranger School. After serving in the Persian Gulf War, he moved on to his ultimate challenge, becoming a Green Beret. Since completing the Special Forces Qualification Course, Terry has been deployed on training and combat missions all over the world, most recently in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his military credentials; Terry is a licensed paramedic, has extensive martial arts training, speaks several languages, and holds a degree in anthropology. Terry is the eyes and ears of the viewer, as he travels the globe to discover exactly what it takes to be a warrior.

Upcoming episodes of the 10-part series of WARRIORS include:

WARRIORS: Viking Terror

WARRIORS: Mayan Armageddon

For centuries, the Mayas ruled over one of the largest empires in the Americas. Then they vanished, leaving their sophisticated cities and colossal monuments to be swallowed by the jungle. Traveling deep into the untamed tropical forests of Guatemala, Terry Schappert learns of the bizarre rituals and fighting techniques of the Mayas, and discovers the role their warrior society may have played in their disappearance. He discovers that the Mayas were not only accomplished architects and astronomers, but fierce warriors as well.

WARRIORS: Barbarian Massacre

Premieres Monday, March 26 at 10:00pm ET/PT

The Battle of Teutoburg Forest, 9 AD, stands centuries later as one of the greatest defeats ever suffered by the Roman Empire. The victor: Germanic tribesmen known by their enemies only as the Barbarians. But, how did these tribesmen, using primitive weapons and undisciplined guerilla fighting tactics, rise up to defeat the greatest army on the face of the earth? Terry Schappert travels to Germany's untamed forests to encounter how these men trained and fought. Along the way, he uncovers a story of astounding leadership by a young commander, Arminus, who uses the Barbarian's most brutal and effective weapon, fear, to pull off a catastrophic defeat that would unite his homeland and forever alter the course of European history.
