MODERN LOVE (HBO, New!) - Jenny Bicks and Alan Poul are attached to write and direct, respectively, a small screen take on the column of the same name in The New York Times' Sunday Styles section. The single-camera half-hour will revolve around "the fictionalized male editor of the column and his family life as he endures a messy divorce, a strained relationship with his teenage daughter and a difficult return to the world of dating." In addition, stories and personalities from the Times' column will be woven in the series' storylines. Gail Berman and Lloyd Braun's BermanBraun optioned the column last year and subsequently set up the project at Sony Pictures Television. Bicks is also shepherding a new incarnation of the Sarah Jessica Parker-produced pilot "Washingtonienne," based on Jessica Cutler's book of the same name, which didn't move forward to series. Mark Mylod helmed said half-hour from a script by Joni Lefkowitz and Susanna Fogel.
UNTITLED DEBRA MESSING PROJECT (NBC, New!) - "The Starter Wife" alum Debra Messing is set to return to the Peacock for a new comedy about "a laid-off CEO who is as ill-prepared to be a full-time wife and mother as her husband is to provide for the family." The network has given a script commitment to the project, following a bidding war with ABC, as well as an episodic guarantee for Messing. "Wife" executive producers Josann McGibbon and Sara Parriott are behind the single-camera half-hour, which is set up at Universal Media Studios and 3 Arts Entertainment. The pair are also executive producing alongside Messing, Molly Madden, Stephanie Davis and Howard Klein.
