Grammy�-winning Artist to Play Ren-Mar Doc in 7 Episodes
LOS ANGELES, CA � (May 12, 2009) � Alternative rock star Alanis Morissette will travel to Ren-Mar for the 5th season of SHOWTIME's highest-rated comedy series WEEDS, premiering Monday, June 8th at 10p PT/ET. The multiple Grammy�-winning singer/songwriter will guest star as a no-nonsense clinic obstetrician, "Dr. Audra Kitson," who treats Nancy (Mary-Louise Parker) in at least seven of the season's 13 episodes. Morissette joins Jennifer Jason Leigh as season five special guest stars.
Alanis Morissette has released a series of groundbreaking albums that have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide. She has won twelve Juno Awards, seven Grammy� Awards, and has also received an additional fourteen Grammy� nominations. Alanis' international debut album Jagged Little Pill introduced her to the world and broke countless records worldwide. It remains the best-selling debut album by a female artist in the U.S. and is the highest selling debut album worldwide in music history. Morissette's subsequent five studio albums have all included a series of chart-topping singles. Her most recent release, Flavors of Entanglement, was released in June 2008 and debuted in the U.S. in the Top 10 on Billboard's Top 200 album chart. Achieving success as a recording and performing artist, Morissette has also lent her talents to other forums. Her television acting work includes roles on "Sex and the City" and "Curb Your Enthusiasm," along with a three-episode arc on "Nip/Tuck."
This season on WEEDS, Nancy's (Parker) pregnancy brings security, then jeopardy and maybe the end of Esteban's (Demian Bichir) political career; Celia's return to Ren-Mar brings a powerful new job prospect, Andy's (Justin Kirk) new love interest brings unexpected consequences; and Doug (Kevin Nealon) and Silas (Hunter Parrish) open a new pot club.
