Development Update: Friday, September 4
By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

BIG LOVE (HBO) - Bella Thorne ("My Own Worst Enemy") has booked a recurring role on the show's new season, due in January. She'll reportedly take over as Barb's (Jeanne Tripplehorn) daughter Tancy, replacing Jolean Wejbe. No reason was given for the change. The actress had originally been pegged as Christie, "Barb's niece and Cindy's (Judith Hoag) daughter who has deep anger issues," however that appears to no longer be the case.

CHUCK (NBC) - Angie Harmon ("Women's Murder Club") is the latest addition to the show's third season. Entertainment Weekly reports she'll "guest star in this season's fourth episode as Sydney, a spy for the Ring who wants to whack Ryan McPartlin's awe-obsessed alter ego." Harmon marks the third addition thus far for the new season, the others being Kristin Kreuk and Brandon Routh.

EXTENDED FAMILY (FOX, New!)/MANY WIVES OF JON (TV Land, New!) - Former "According to Jim" executive producers John Beck and Ron Hart have set up a pair of multi-camera comedies. FOX has ordered a script for "Extended Family," which "centers on a blue-collar mom in charge of foster kids," while TV Land has likewise commissioned a script for "Many Wives of Jon," about "a young couple and how their lives change when the wife's family moves in with them." Both projects are reportedly based on Beck's real-life experiences, the former on his childhood when "his mother took in foster children to live with them" and the latter on a recent stint in which "his wife's mother, sister and 5-year-old niece came to live with them." Sony Pictures Television and the studio-based Apostle are behind "Family" while no studio mentioned as attached to "Jon."
