By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

LIGHTS OUT (FX) - Pablo Schreiber ("The Wire") is the newest addition to the upcoming drama, about "an aging former heavyweight boxing champion (Holt McCallany) who struggles to support his wife (Catherine McCormack), a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, and three daughters after his fighting days are over." He'll play the man's brother and boxing manager, a role originated by Elias Koteas in the pilot. Stacy Keach also stars in the hour, due later this year.

LUCK (HBO) - "John From Cincinnati" and "Deadwood" creator David Milch is back in business with the pay channel, this time for a drama set in the world of horse racing. The project tracks "what happens in the clubhouse and the grandstand, but also on the backside of the track, where the training is done and where they house the horses." Feature helmer Michael Mann ("Miami Vice") is reportedly close to signing on to direct the pilot, which is expected to start filming in April at the Santa Anita Race Track. Milch is an avid fan of the sport, owning close to 100 horses and winning several Breeders' Cup races. Milch and Mann then will executive produce alongside Carolyn Strauss. As for specifics, the lead character Ace Bernstein, is detailed by Milch as follows: "a guy versed in all the permutations of finance, elicit and otherwise. When he is released from jail for securities violations, he resumes his place at the race track, where he is a figure of long-standing repute."

RIDE ALONG (FOX) - Shawn Ryan's new drama has been given the go ahead to produce a pilot by the network. The project, which received a put pilot commitment back in August, "will center on three groups of police officers - ranging from uniformed beat cops to the female chief of police." Ryan wrote the script and will executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television-based project, which is based and will film in Chicago.

TRUE LOVE (CBS) - The Eye has formally greenlighted the multi-camera comedy pilot, "an ensemble comedy about four friends in New York looking for love." Matt Tarses ("Worst Week") is behind the half-hour, which is set up at Sony Pictures Television and now CBS Television Studios. Tarses penned the pilot and is executive producing alongside his sister Jamie Tarses's Sony-based banner FanFare.
