24 (FOX) - 20th Century Fox Television has halted production on the veteran drama in order allow co-star Kiefer Sutherland to undergo surgery for a ruptured cyst. "We are temporarily suspending production of '24' while our friend and colleague Kiefer Sutherland undergoes a medical procedure," the studio said in a statement released to the press. "We hope to resume production shortly and do not anticipate any disruption in the broadcast of this season's episodes." Said rupture reportedly occurred last week however production continued with scenes that did not involved his character. The actor's publicist also issued a statement saying, "While Kiefer Sutherland is frustrated to miss even one day of work, he and Fox decided together that it would be best to complete this minor elective procedure now as a precaution as opposed to six weeks from now when production wraps. He looks forward to returning to work next week."

MATADORS (ABC) - Michelle Borth ("The Forgotten") and Jonathan Scarfe ("Raising the Bar") are both the latest additions to the pilot, "a Romeo-and-Juliet-style drama about two feuding families' battle against each other as one populates the state attorney's office and the other manages an influential private law firm." She'll play Juliana Lodari, the Juliet in question, "a talented lawyer who joins her father in the state attorney's office and embarks on a secret affair with Alex (Zach Gilford), an heir of the rival family who works at his father's firm." Her casting is in second position to "The Forgotten," which is still under consideration for a second season. Scarfe then is set as Mitch Galloway, Alex's brother, "a skilled defense attorney who would rather win a case for a guilty client and collect his earnings than concern himself with serving justice." David Strathairn also stars as Juliana's father Roman. Jack Orman is behind the hour, which is set up at Sony Pictures Television.

THE MIRACULOUS YEAR (HBO, New!) - Oscar-nominees Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") and John Logan ("The Aviator") are set to team for a potential new series at the pay channel billed as "an examination of a New York family as seen through the lens of a charismatic, self-destructive Broadway composer." Logan penned the project, which has a pilot commitment, with Bigelow attached to direct. Both will also executive produce alongside Lydia Pilcher. Production then is set to begin in May at the earliest.

THE ODDS (CBS) - Australian actor Sullivan Stapleton ("Underbelly") has been tapped for one of the lead roles on the drama pilot, about a pair of Las Vegas cops who are as outrageous as the crimes they solve. He's set as Wade Simms, "the longtime head of the homicide division who is forced to take a demotion after an Internal Affairs investigation." Jeff Wadlow penned the hour, which comes from Silver Pictures and Warner Bros. Television.

UNTITLED DANA GOULD PROJECT (ABC) - Brian Dennehy has scored a role on the comedy pilot, about "a high school guidance counselor (Gould) and father to two young children who is caught between the old-school parenting beliefs of his father, a retired high school football coach, and his wife's progressive ideals." He'll play "Big Phil" Nolan, the aforementioned father of Gould's character. Warner Bros. Television is behind the multi-camera project, which Gould wrote and will executive produce alongside Dave Becky and Tom Lassally.

UNTITLED MEDICAL PROJECT (CBS) - Amy Smart ("Smith") is the first to be cast on the drama pilot, about "a mobile medical team that travels the U.S. helping those in need get through life-and-death medical crises." She's believed to be playing Meg Cooper, "a tough nurse who stands up to the doctors and sleeps with one of them." Hannah Shakespeare penned the hour, which is set up at John Wells Productions and Warner Bros. Television.
