RICHARD DREYFUSS ROLLS INTO "WEEDS"

Oscar Winner to Guest Star in Four Episodes of Season Six, Premiering August 16th at 10pm PT/ET

LOS ANGELES, CA (July 7, 2010) Jaws... Close Encounters of the Third Kind... American Graffiti... The Goodbye Girl... he's earned acclaim worldwide for his work in some of Hollywood's highest-grossing, all-time favorite and critically adored films, but Oscar(R) winner Richard Dreyfuss is returning briefly to series television, guest starring in at least four episodes of SHOWTIME's hit comedy series WEEDS, premiering August 16th at 10pm PT/ET. Dreyfuss will play an unexpected character from Nancy Botwin's past. The role will mark Dreyfuss' return to SHOWTIME: in 2002, he was nominated for a SAG(R) award for his work as Alexander Haig in the network's docudrama "The Day Reagan Was Shot."

This season, Nancy Botwin (Mary-Louise Parker in her Golden Globe(R) Award-winning performance) and family are now on the lam after Shane (Alexander Gould) bopped Mexican VIP Pilar to death with a croquet mallet. To elude the Mexican FBI, police and mafia, they grab what they can, toss their cell phones and IDs and hit the road. Previously announced guest stars include Linda Hamilton, Peter Stormare, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, as well as returning guest stars Alanis Morissette and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

In his nearly five-decade career, Richard Dreyfuss has made his indelible mark in countless films. In 1978, he earned Oscar(R) and Golden Globe(R) awards for his star-turn opposite Marsha Mason in The Goodbye Girl, and was nominated again for both awards in 1996 for Mr. Holland's Opus. He was also nominated for a Golden Globe(R) for his work in the cult classic American Graffiti. While Dreyfuss began his career in television, often bringing unforgettable performances in episodes of beloved series, in 2001, he headlined the CBS drama "The Education of Max Bickford," a role that garnered him a SAG(R) nomination. He also starred in the 2007 Sci-Fi original mini-series "Tin Man." Additional film credits include Down & Out in Beverly Hills, Tin Men, W and last year's The Lightkeeper.
