By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC)

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:

Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!

HAPPILY EVER AFTER (Showtime, New!) - Jeff Daniels is set to topline a potential new drama at the network about "a Michigan factory worker who quits his job to pursue music." Timothy Busfield is attached to direct the hour, which he penned alongside the actor. Both will serve as executive producers.

IN PLAIN SIGHT (USA) - Feature writers Ed Decter and John Strauss ("The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause") have been tapped as the latest showrunners of the drama series. They'll take over for John McNamara, who has stepped down as the result of health issues. Said development led the network to halt production after 13 episodes last season, three short of its original 16-episode order. The Mary McCormack-led series returns for its fourth season next year.

NECESSARY ROUGHNESS (USA) - Marc Blucas has joined the cast of the drama pilot, about "a female shrink (Callie Thorne) who becomes the therapist for a professional football team." He'll play "the team's hunky trainer and a romantic foil for Thorne." Craig Shapiro and Liz Kruger are behind the Sony Pictures Television-based project, to be directed by Kevin Dowling.

OFF THE MAP (ABC) - Aimee Garcia ("Trauma") has landed a role on the freshman drama. She'll play "a local who falls for [Zach] Gilford's plastic surgeon character" in a multi-episode arc. The newcomer revolves around a group of doctors that work at a remote medical clinic in South America.

UNTITLED ANTHONY EDWARDS/MARK RUFFALO PROJECT (Showtime, New!) - "Zodiac" co-stars Mark Ruffalo and Anthony Edwards are developing a new series at the pay channel "set in the morally ambiguous world of media crisis management and centered on two partners running such a firm." Roberto Benabib ("Weeds") is penning the project, which is based on a concept by Ruffalo and Edwards, who may also star. Cheryl Dollins will likewise executive produce alongside the trio for CBS Television Studios.
