THE VOTES ARE IN... THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND WINS "CBS's HAWAII FIVE-0 MARCHING BAND MANIA" CONTEST

Sound the trumpets...The University of Maryland has won "CBS's HAWAII FIVE-0 Marching Band Mania" contest. Last night, their winning performance of the iconic HAWAII FIVE-0 theme song was partially featured during an act break of the new hit CBS series. The school earned a prize of $25,000 toward their band program for their winning performance.

College bands from across the country competed in the contest, with online voting taking place at www.cbscollegesports.com/hawaiifive-0 from Monday, Sept. 20 through Monday, Oct. 4. The University of Maryland's popular performance included some fun HAWAII FIVE-0 themed formations. They taped their winning entry in front of a packed stadium during the Maryland vs. Navy game on Sept. 6.

Per Richmond Sparks, Director of Bands, University of Maryland, the $25,000 will go toward replacing their 13-year-old uniforms. Said Sparks, "It's a tremendous thrill for these students who worked so hard to put this performance together, and it will be one of those legacies that will be handed down by the Maryland program...Being chosen to be the champion of this contest has put us up there with athletic teams as we waited NCAA-style to find out who was getting the call."

HAWAII FIVE-0 is a contemporary take on the classic series about a new, elite federalized task force whose mission is to wipe out the crime that washes up on the Islands' sun-drenched beaches. The series is broadcast Mondays (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network and stars Alex O'Loughlin as Detective Steve McGarrett, Scott Caan as Detective Danny "Danno" Williams, Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelly, and Grace Park as Kono Kalakaua. Peter Lenkov, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are executive producers for CBS Television Studios.
