[10/19/10 - 08:06 PM] Development Update: Tuesday, October 19 By The Futon Critic Staff (TFC) |
|
LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- The latest development news, culled from recent wire reports:
Looking to keep track of all the various projects in development? Click here to visit our signature "Devwatch" section. There visitors can view our listings by network, genre, studio and even development stage (ordered to pilot, cast-contingent, script, etc.). It's updated every day!
ACTING OUT (The CW, New!) - Writer/director Todd Graff ("Bandslam") is developing a new drama at the netlet about "the counselors and staff of a down-on-its-luck summer camp whose new owner is a young curmudgeon." He'll will write and potentially direct the hour, a thematic follow-up to his 2003 feature "Camp," about "a burnt-out Broadway songwriter who goes to work at a musical camp for young performers." Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas is attached to executive produce. No studio was listed as attached.
AMERICAN DAD/BOB'S BURGERS (FOX) - The network has ordered additional scripts of both animated projects. Newcomer "Bob's Burgers," which is due in January, has been asked for six extra scripts while "American Dad," currently in its sixth season, has been tapped for eight. Both orders are the result of the extra lead time needed to produce animation, allowing - should the actual episodes be greenlit - each series to stay in continuous production.
GODPARENTS (FOX, New!) - Brad Neely ("I Am Babycakes") has booked a pilot presentation at the network for a new animated comedy billed as a "twisted family show about a couple ill-equipped to raise kids who are forced to take care of their godchildren." Tim Long ("The Simpsons") is supervising the project for 20th Century Fox Television.
RED ROOFS (FOX) - Bob Kushell's animated comedy, about "a 12-year-old boy who splits his time between his divorced parents' suburban homes," has been given a pilot presentation order by the network. 20th Century Fox Television is behind the project, which was unveiled last month.
TERRA NOVA (FOX) - Mido Hamada ("24") has joined the cast of the upcoming drama, which "follows an ordinary family embarking on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a massive experiment to save the human race." He'll play Guzman, "the head of a security team who also serves as a trusted advisor to Frank Taylor (Stephen Lang)." Jason O'Mara and Allison Miller also star in the project, which comes from 20th Century Fox Television, Chernin Entertainment, DreamWorks Television and Kapital Entertainment. Production on the pilot, set to premiere in May, is now set to begin next month in Australia.
TREME (HBO) - David Morse and India Ennenga have been upped to series regulars for the show's second season. They'll continue on as Terry Colson, an NOPD lieutenant, and Sofia Bernette, the teen daughter of John Goodman's Creighton, respectively. Season two of the series rolls out in the spring of next year.
UNDERCOVERS (NBC) - The Peacock has asked for four additional scripts of the freshman drama. Said commitment comes on the heels of full seasons orders for its freshman brethren "The Event," "Chase," "Outsourced" and "Law & Order: Los Angeles." The show's most recent airing drew 5.98 million viewers and a 1.5 rating among adults 18-49, narrowly topping "America's Next Top Model" for fourth place in its Wednesday, 8:00/7:00c time period.
UNTITLED KARI LIZER PROJECT (NBC, New!) - "The New Adventures of Old Christine" creator Kari Lizer has booked a new workplace comedy at the Peacock about "a woman helping people transition between jobs." Said half-hour is set up at Warner Bros. Television, where Lizer's overall deal is based. It's understood NBC has given a production commitment to the project, however no financial specifics were given.
UNTITLED MALCOLM GLADWELL/CHARLES RANDOLPH PROJECT (HBO, New!) - Author Malcolm Gladwell ("Blink") and screenwriter Charles Randolph ("The Interpreter") are set to team for a potential new drama at the pay channel about a missionary in Cold War Berlin who becomes involved with the CIA. They'll write and executive produce the hour, which also comes from Leverage's Stephen Levinson and Closest to the Hole Productions's Mark Wahlberg. No other specifics were given.
