BBC AMERICA PRESENTS... "MODERN MONARCHY: HERE & THERE"

- Up-close with Diana's wedding dress, Wallis Simpson: the American who caused a Royal scandal and what's next for William and Kate -

- Basic cable premiere of The Tudors rounds off another night of Royal Programming on BBC AMERICA -

New York, NY - As more details are revealed about the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton each day, the fascination with this modern monarchy continues to grow. In the months leading up to the big day on April 29, BBC AMERICA, the home of the Royal Wedding, is the go-to-spot for all things related to the Prince and his soon-to-be Princess. Hot on the heels of last month's much talked about special, William & Kate: Modern Monarchy, comes an all new BBC World News America produced Royal Special this month, Modern Monarchy: Here & There.

Hosted by BBC World News America's Katty Kay, this intriguing 30 minute presentation examines the public's enchantment with the Prince's engagement and how it perfectly illustrates America's on-going fascination with Britain's Royal Family. Modern Monarchy: Here & There begins with a recent visit by BBC reporter and Royal Expert, Laura Trevelyan, to an exhibit that features Diana's stunning wedding dress and other important items from the Royal Wedding of Prince Charles and Diana in 1981- inspiring speculation about whose fashion footsteps Kate might follow in. Then Katty takes a look at America's very own Royal, Wallis Simpson, who married Edward VIII, and for whom the prince abdicated the throne. Simpson's storied history was recently highlighted in the Golden Globe nominated film The King's Speech and now, using archival footage and interviews with people who knew her, the special delves deeper into the life of the American divorcee who stole the heart of a King, and almost brought about the downfall of the Crown. The final piece explores Britain's relationship with the monarchy, as seen through the eyes of Americans living in London, and whether Kate will be the Royal who finally makes monarchists out of a nation of republicans.

Modern Monarchy: Here & There premieres Wednesday, January 19, 9:30p.m. ET/PT. As part of BBC AMERICA's ongoing Royal Programming, Modern Monarchy: Here & There is preceded by an encore broadcast of BBC AMERICA's first Royal Special, William & Kate: Modern Monarchy at 9:00p.m. ET/PT and followed by the basic cable premiere of The Tudors at 10:00p.m. ET/PT. The Tudors premiere marks the first time ever, non premium cable subscribers will have the chance to see the dramatic retelling of one of England's most notorious monarchs, Henry VIII, and the political intrigues that led to the demise of five wives and a schism with the Catholic Church.

In addition to the ongoing Royal Programming on the channel, BBCAmerica.com has launched a Royal Wedding Insider blog featuring insights from BBC reporter and Royal Expert Laura Trevelyan, daily updates on all wedding activities, pop-culture commentary, live chats, video, media from the BBC archives, and an embeddable countdown widget. The blog also is being syndicated on Yahoo! News through their The New Royals column.
