TBS, Travel Channel Set Summer Schedules; Discovery Orders "Deception With Keith Barry" to Series

LOS ANGELES (thefutoncritic.com) -- A recap of the most recent developments in the world of basic cable:

-- Discovery will launch "Deception With Keith Barry" on Tuesday, May 31 at 10:00/9:00c following "Deadliest Catch." The series, which will then regularly air Wednesday nights at 10:00/9:00c after "MythBusters," follows the mentalist/illusionist/deception expert as he uses said abilities to read his subjects' thoughts and control their behaviors. A backdoor pilot special bowed on the network in July of last year.

-- TBS will kick off new episodes of "Are We There Yet?" on Wednesday, July 27 at 8:00/7:00c while "Tyler Perry's House of Payne" will take a break from originals following its June 29 installment. Following said airing, the cable channel will have 27 more installments left in the can.

-- TLC has banished newcomer "Spouse vs. House" to Saturday afternoons at 1:00 p.m. ET. The series - in which a couple is given $25,000 to make over three rooms of their house however the husband has to handle the renovation alone, leaving her to wonder how well he knows her taste - had been airing on Wednesday nights at 10:00/9:00c. The network will fill the latter void with fellow freshman "Pawn Queens," which slides from Thursday nights at 10:00/9:00c.

-- And finally, Travel Channel has locked in its summer lineup. It all begins with "Man v. Food Nation," in which Adam Richman mentors those willing to step up to the plate and take on their local food challenges. The spin-off launches Wednesday, June 1 at 9:00/8:00c following a one-hour preview special on May 25. That same night at 10:00/9:00c look for "Sand Masters," about the travels of a team of sand sculpture experts.

-- Also on tap at Travel Channel are "Mancations" (Sunday, June 5 at 10:00/9:00c), in which comedians Evan Mann and Gareth Reynolds search for the perfect guy getaway; and "Paranormal Challenge" (Friday, June 17 at 9:00/8:00c), a competition series hosted by "Ghost Adventures'" Zak Bagans in which amateur paranormal investigators are challenged to prove their skills. New episodes of "Bert the Conqueror" (Sundays at 8:00/7:00c), "Off Limits" (Mondays at 9:00/8:00c), "Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern" (Tuesdays at 9:00/8:00c) and "Ghost Adventures" (Fridays at 9:00/8:00c with its season finale on June 10) also continue into the summer.
