Network's New Original Offerings Will Include Two Movies, Two Specials and A Documentary Film

New York, NY - January 9, 2012 - Following another year of successes, including double-digit growth among Adults 18-34 and the premiere of its first-ever original movie, Steve Niles' Remains, Chiller has unveiled an all-new slate of original programming, it was announced today by Thomas P. Vitale, Executive Vice President, Programming & Original Movies, Syfy and Chiller. These projects join the previously-announced original movie Brian Keene's Ghoul, currently slated to premiere in early 2012.

From the same director/producer of the critically-acclaimed hit documentary Best Worst Movie (2009) comes The American Scream: an unconventional look at the Halloween cultural phenomenon of homemade haunted houses, and the enthusiasts behind the scenes. Filmed in the sleepy enclave of Fairhaven, MA, The American Scream follows the creative minds behind three local homemade haunts and their spirited, passionate and sometimes harrowing efforts in igniting their town's Halloween spirit each year. Slated for an October 2012 premiere, The American Scream is produced by Michael and Lindsay Stephenson, Zack Carlson and Rod Olson for Magic Stone Productions and Meyer Shwarzstein of Brainstorm Media; Michael Stephenson directs.

On his 18th birthday, Johnny Petrie learns he was adopted when he inherits a farm in Maine, abandoned for the 18 years since his natural family died at the hands of his father, the local preacher. Eager for a new life, he leaves home to start over in his new dwelling. However, as he digs into his past, he soon uncovers the horrifying details of his father's questionable teachings. In a frightening revelation, he also learns that his return has revived decades-old forces trapped in the home and sets in motion a heart-stopping finale to a ritual that already claimed the lives of his family. Dead Souls is adapted from the novel by Bram Stoker Award Finalist Michael Laimo. The film is written by John Doolan and directed by Colin Theys; Andrew Gernhard and Zach O'Brien will produce for Synthetic Cinema International.

When a group of young friends commemorating their high school graduation take a trip to the remote Black Lake, their celebration turns into a nightmare with the sudden appearance of a bloodthirsty, underwater predator. Stuck in a leaking boat with no oars, the teens face the ultimate tests of friendship and sacrifice during a terror-stricken fight for survival. Beneath is written by Tony Daniel and Brian D. Smith, and directed by horror icon Larry Fessenden (The Last Winter, Habit). Produced by Fessenden and Peter Phok for Glass Eye Pix (Stake Land, The Innkeepers, I Sell The Dead).

Chiller investigates the terrifying factual stories that inspired some of the scariest horror movies of all time, including Silent Hill, The Amityville Horror, The Mothman Prophecies and Poltergeist, through exclusive eyewitness interviews and reenactments of actual events. Paranormal investigator Katrina Weidman (Paranormal State) travels with three of her friends into the dark recesses of the unknown to uncover the buried secrets behind these four iconic films. Real Fear: The Truth Behind The Movies is executive produced by Larry Landsman and John D'Auria for AEP Media.

Mythbusters meets What Would You Do? - with a twist - as Chiller goes beyond the movie screen to confront the most terrifying realities of today's iconic film moments. How fast would a zombie invasion spread? Could someone live on blood alone? How long could a human being survive being buried alive? These and other adrenaline-pumping Hollywood moments are put to the test in this original special produced by Richard Drew for Savannah Media.

Chiller is the only cable channel devoted to delivering viewers round-the-clock scares. Chiller's eclectic slate of adrenaline-fueled, soul-stirring entertainment includes a broad offering of original movies and specials, genre films, international programming (Afterlife, Apparitions), documentary and reality shows (Fear Factor), anthology series (Masters of Horror) and some of the most thought-provoking and suspenseful series ever on television (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Twilight Zone, Tales from the Darkside, Outer Limits).
