DISNEY/ABC TELEVISION GROUP'S CRITICALLY-ACCLAIMED ABC PLAYER APP SURPASSES 5 MILLION DOWNLOAD MARK
Over 100 Million Episodes Started and More Than 400 Million Ads
Served via the App on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch
Disney/ABC Television Group announced today that its industry-leading ABC Player app -- which makes ad supported full episodes of ABC's daytime and primetime programming available to viewers the day after they air - has surpassed more than 100 million episode views and over 5 million downloads on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Additionally, as ABC prepares for its annual Upfront to advertisers next week, the app has delivered approximately 400 million video ads since its launch in April 2010.
Recently the app was revealed to be the sixth most downloaded free iPad app of all time, and in March expanded its availability to iPhone and iPod touch. The most recent version of the app includes key product upgrades such as optimization for retina display on the next generation iPad, closed captioning functionality, as well as providing the ability to "save and recall" their playback position between iOS devices.
In addition to recently making the ABC Player app available to iPhone and iPod touch users, the Disney/ABC Television Group's Digital Media team has successfully launched two other iPad, iPhone and iPod touch products in recent weeks. The ABC Family app, which launched in March 2012 and also delivers free, ad supported full episodes, has been downloaded over one million times, resulting in seven million video views. In the kids space, Disney Channel launched the "Motorcity: Drive" game online and on iOS devices to rave reviews. The app raced to the top of charts, where it broke into the top 10 for free iPad games, and the top 25 free iPad apps across all categories.
Over the past several years, the Disney/ABC Television Group has consistently launched innovative apps for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Other notable DATG apps include the critically-acclaimed ABC News app for iPad and the Emmy Award-winning official Oscars app, which provided unique backstage viewing experiences for the 83rd and 84th Academy Awards.
