NBC'S SERIES "GRIMM" HONORED WITH ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD FROM PORTLAND OREGON TOURISM OFFICE

May 10, 2012 - NBC's series GRIMM is being honored for its environmentally friendly production practices in Portland, Oregon, where the fairy-tale based show is filmed.

GRIMM will be presented with the "Green Award" at the 33rd Annual Travel Portland Tourism and Hospitality Industry Awards on Thursday, May 10 in Portland, Oregon. The award recognizes environmentally friendly business practices that help to sustain Oregon's exceptional quality of life.

A great example of NBCUniversal's company-wide environmental initiative, "Green is Universal," GRIMM is committed to raising the bar for green production practices. The show has implemented a number of new and innovative environmentally-friendly requirements on set to reduce waste and energy. Filming in Portland - one of the nation's greenest cities - has given the show the unique opportunity to utilize local vendors and resources to further advance production sustainability, such as commercial composting and biodiesel blended fuel.

GRIMM begins production on season two in Portland later this month.

In celebration of National Travel & Tourism week (May 5-13), the 33rd Annual Travel Portland Tourism and Hospitality Industry Awards honors businesses and individuals who have made a significant impact on the region's tourism industry and quality of life in the past year. Travel Portland is the official destination marketing organization for the city of Portland, Oregon.

"Grimm" is inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Portland homicide Detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli, "Turn the Beat Around") discovers he is descended from an elite line of criminal profilers known as "Grimms," charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world. As he tries to hide the dangers of his new found calling from his girlfriend, Juliette Silverton, (Bitsie Tulloch, "quarterlife"), and his partner, Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby, "Lincoln Heights"), he becomes ever more entrenched in the ancient rivalries and alliances of the Grimm world.

With help from his confidant, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, "Prison Break"), a reformed Grimm creature himself, Nick must navigate through the forces of a larger-than-life mythology, facing off with Hexenbiests, Blutbads and all manner of ancient evils, including royal lines dating back to the original profilers themselves, The Grimm Brothers. Reggie Lee ("Persons Unknown") and Sasha Roiz ("Caprica") also star.

"Grimm" is a Universal Television and Hazy Mills production. The series was created by Stephen Carpenter and David Greenwalt & Jim Kouf. Sean Hayes, Todd Milliner ("Hot In Cleveland") and Norberto Barba ("Law & Order: Criminal Intent") also serve as executive producers along with Greenwalt and Kouf.

About Green is Universal:

Launched in May 2007, "Green is Universal" is NBCUniversal's ongoing green initiative dedicated to raising Green awareness, effecting positive change to the environment, and making its own operations more sustainable. Throughout the year, NBCUniversal uses it numerous media and entertainment platforms to educate the public on the environment, with green-themed content airing across over 50 NBCUniversal brands.
