CBS NEWS' BOB SCHIEFFER TO MODERATE FINAL PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE OF THE CAMPAIGN ON OCT. 22, 2012

SCHIEFFER IS THE ONLY NETWORK TELEVISION NEWS ANCHOR SELECTED TO MODERATE A PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE

The Debate Will Be Held At Lynn University in Boca Raton, Fla., And Will Focus on Foreign Policy

Bob Schieffer, CBS News Chief Washington Correspondent and Anchor of FACE THE NATION, will moderate the final presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, the Commission on Presidential Debates announced today.

Hosted by Lynn University, the 90-minute debate will take place Oct. 22 at 9:00 PM, ET. The debate will be divided into six 15-minute segments focusing on foreign policy. Schieffer will begin each segment with a question, and each candidate will have two minutes to respond. Schieffer will use the remaining time in each segment to continue discussion of the topic.

Schieffer is the only network television news anchor selected to moderate a presidential debate this election year. In 2008, he moderated the final presidential debate between Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) and then-Senator Barack Obama (D-Ill.) at Hofstra University. He also moderated the final presidential debate between President George W. Bush and Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) at Arizona State University in 2004.

Schieffer has spent 43 years at CBS News and is one of the few broadcast or print journalists to have covered all four major beats in the nation's capital - the White House, the Pentagon, the State Department and Capitol Hill. He has covered every presidential election since 1972. Since 1991, Schieffer has anchored FACE THE NATION, CBS News' Sunday public affairs broadcast and one of the longest-running news programs in the history of television. Schieffer is also CBS News' Chief Washington Correspondent, a post he has held since 1982.
