Investigation Discovery Announces All-New October Slate Featuring Suspense, Suspicion, And Scandal

-- ID Ushers in Autumn with the World Television Premiere of Werner Herzog's INTO THE ABYSS: A TALE OF LIFE, A TALE OF DEATH --

SILVER SPRING, Md., Sept. 18, 2012 -- Delivering the highest quality investigative programming on cable, Investigation Discovery has been devoted to providing its viewers with insight into true stories that piece together the puzzles of human nature since its launch in 2008. With a packed slate of new and returning series in October, anchoring the month is the world television premiere of Academy Award(R)-nominated filmmaker Werner Herzog's documentary, INTO THE ABYSS, an ID Films presentation airing on October 23 from 8-10 PM (E/P). In this film, Herzog explores the dark reaches of humanity through conversations with death row inmate Michael Perry and interviews those affected by his crimes, conducting a uniquely thought-provoking analysis of why people - and the state - kill. This critically acclaimed feature is a companion to the four-part television series, ON DEATH ROW, which premiered on ID in March, 2012.

In addition, throughout October, America's guilty pleasure network introduces a programming slate featuring viewer favorites rich with suspense, scandal, and deadly deceit. Kicking off the month, the voices of the dead come to life when the ABC series FINAL WITNESS joins ID's collection of captivating series on October 1 at 10 PM (E/P). Returning favorites include: a retired detective relives the details of his most haunting cases in the season two premiere of HOMICIDE HUNTER: LT. JOE KENDA on October 2 at 9 PM (E/P); familiar felons are unveiled in a new season of DEVIL YOU KNOW on October 17 at 10 PM (E/P); and grief and greed collide - celebrity style - in a new season of THE WILL: FAMILY SECRETS REVEALED on October 18 at 9 PM (E/P). Finally, closing out the month is the world premiere of ID's newest series, MOTIVES & MURDERS: CRACKING THE CASE, making its debut on October 30 at 10 PM (E/P). This series explores the emotional stories of those attempting to find closure in homicide investigations, from the victims' families to the dedicated police officers doing everything possible to solve the case.

"Investigation Discovery's growing success has been built around our loyal viewers' unwavering need to uncover the truth," said Henry Schleiff, president and general manager of Investigation Discovery. "With premieres every night of the week throughout the month of October, we are committed to unraveling mysteries and capturing audiences' attention further with even more of the thought-provoking, engrossing, and chilling storytelling that has become a staple of ID's mainstay brand."

Investigation Discovery's full October programming slate of premieres includes:

Documentary Makes Its World Television Premiere on Tuesday, October 23 from 8-10 PM (E/P)

Werner Herzog's INTO THE ABYSS debuted in September 2011 to rave reviews and festival buzz from Telluride to Toronto. Exploring the intricate details and emotional aftermath of a triple homicide in Conroe, Texas, Herzog sought to better understand the impact of life in prison and the shattering effects of the death penalty. Of the two young perpetrators featured in the film, one will spend most of his life in prison while the other was executed just eight days after his interview with Herzog.

All-New Series Premieres Tuesday, October 30 at 10 PM (E/P)

MOTIVES & MURDERS: CRACKING THE CASE explores the emotional stories of those attempting to find closure in homicide investigations, from the victims' families to the dedicated police officers. Combining the thrill of mystery with the visceral experience of true-crime drama, this series presents competing versions of what may have happened and re-enacts the events from different perspectives as new evidence comes to light. Each episode follows along as those involved relentlessly search for the truth and follow the clues wherever they may lead.

The ABC Series Premieres Monday, October 1 at 10 PM (E/P)

Speaking from the grave, ABC's series FINAL WITNESS documents the incredible stories of real-life crimes told from the viewpoint of murder victims who didn't survive. Compelling and compassionate, this series offers a unique look at some of the nation's most shocking murders. Featuring interviews with real-life witnesses, prosecutors, law enforcement, family and friends, FINAL WITNESS creates a haunting study of the human psyche at its core.

Season 2 Premieres Tuesday, October 2 at 9 PM (E/P)

A murder will change the life of a victim, their families, and the convicted killer... but what about the investigator whose days and nights are consumed by finding answers? In each episode of Homicide Hunter: Lt. Joe Kenda, the 24-year veteran of Colorado's homicide investigation unit - who has one of the highest case closure rates in the country - reveals chillingly vivid memories of murders that still haunt him today. Through personal interviews, and with the help of reenactments, Kenda recounts in detail the twists, turns, and emotional tribulations of trying to bring peace to each victim's family.

Season 3 Premieres Wednesday, October 17 at 10 PM (E/P)

DEVIL YOU KNOW delves into the secret lives of men and women who masquerade as law-abiding citizens but, behind the charade, are hiding deadly intentions from their loved ones. As each story unfolds, family and friends give first-hand accounts of the unimaginable betrayal that left them in the dark. These harrowing personal testimonials take viewers on a twisted journey as witnesses wrestle with the demons and devils they have come to know all too well.

Season 3 Premieres Thursday, October 18 at 9 PM (E/P)

THE WILL: FAMILY SECRETS REVEALED returns featuring the outrageousness that abounds when the famous depart. With royalties and residuals up for grabs, celebrities leave behind a lot more than a mansion full of cash - and they also leave behind managers, mom-agers, mistresses, and family members who all want a piece of the pie. This new season runs the gamut in spotlighting superstars that range from up-and-comers who die young and will-less like Ritchie Valens to icons like Jerry Garcia, whose grateful heart promised too much to too many. When the personalities are big but the pocketbooks are even bigger, now that's when things get really interesting.
