NEW YORK, NY - September 23, 2012 - This evening, SHOWTIME was honored with four Primetime Emmy Award wins in top categories at the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards held at the NOKIA Theatre L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles. The network's hit drama series HOMELAND was honored with six Emmy wins including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series, and Outstanding Lead Actress and Actor in a Drama Series. SHOWTIME received 22 Emmy nominations this year, with HOMELAND honored with the most nominations of any freshman drama or comedy series, with nine nominations and six wins this season.
In an impressive feat accomplished in its freshman season, HOMELAND has been awarded Golden Globe(R), Peabody, Television Critics Association, AFI and Critics' Choice Awards, and now has been honored at the Emmys. Despite facing tough competition, HOMELAND was honored as this year's winner for Outstanding Drama Series, the network's first-ever win in the category. Additionally, series star Claire Danes was honored as Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her powerful performance as "Carrie Mathison," the first-ever win in this category in SHOWTIME history. Danes is now a two-time Emmy winner. Series star Damian Lewis received the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for his role as "Nicholas Brody," marking the first Emmy win for Lewis, and the first-ever lead actor win (comedy or drama) for SHOWTIME.
HOMELAND's executive producers Alex Gansa, Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff were honored for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series for the HOMELAND pilot, their first-ever writing nominations and Emmy writing wins, and the first win for the network in the category. At the 2012 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards last weekend, HOMELAND also garnered Emmy wins for Outstanding Casting for a Drama Series and Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing for a Drama Series. HOMELAND returns for its highly-anticipated second season next Sunday, September 30th at 10 p.m. ET/PT.
The Primetime Emmy Awards celebrate excellence in national primetime programming, awarding top honors at the annual Creative Arts and Primetime Awards ceremonies. A symbol of peer recognition from over 15,000 Television Academy members, more than two-dozen peer groups vote for the category of competition in their field of expertise.
