SEAN ASTIN GUEST STARS ON SYFY'S HIT SERIES "ALPHAS" BEGINNING MONDAY, OCTOBER 8 AT 8PM ET/PT

Star of The Lord of the Rings Trilogy and Rudy to Appear in Two Episodes as the Countdown to the Season 2 Finale Begins

NEW YORK - October 5, 2012 - Sean Astin, star of the worldwide hit trilogy, The Lord of the Rings, guest stars in a thrilling, two-episode arc of Syfy's hit-series Alphas beginning this Monday, October 8 at 8PM ET/PT. With just three episodes left, the second season finale of Alphas airs Monday, October 22nd at 8PM ET/PT.

In his episodes, Sean Astin plays Mitchell, an Alpha with enhanced memory capabilities which allow him to store and replay other people's memories and even draw individuals into them as if they're actually happening. Believing he's a major asset to their nemesis, Stanton Parish (recurring guest-star John Pyper-Ferguson), Hicks (Warren Christie) and Kat (Erin Way) are tasked with kidnapping Mitchell but his bone crushing body guard won't give up without a fight, leading to a deadly showdown.

Alphas follows a clandestine group of ordinary people with superhuman mental and physical abilities. Led by preeminent neurologist and psychiatrist Dr. Lee Rosen (Emmy Award-winner and Academy Award-nominee David Strathairn), the unlikely team takes on cases the CIA, FBI and Pentagon are unwilling or unable to solve going head-to-head with many of the criminal Alphas hiding among the normal population. The series also stars Malik Yoba, Ryan Cartwright, Warren Christie, Azita Ghanizada, Laura Mennell and Erin Way.
