E! PREMIERES "THE UNTOLD STORY: JASON DERULO" TUESDAY, MAY 14 AT 10:00 PM/ET

30-Minute Special Details His Path To Success, His Life-Threatening Injury and The Long Road Back to Recovery Through Exclusive Footage And Interviews With Derulo, His Family, His Girlfriend Jordin Sparks, His Doctor And The Many People Who Work With Him

Los Angeles, CA May 7, 2013 - Simon Cowell said he would be huge, Lady Gaga called him "a freakin' superstar," and Jordin Sparks simply calls him her boyfriend. Derulo started his career writing songs for major artists at the very young age of 16, and then scored his own #1 hit record when he was only 19 years old. Another #1 hit followed, and he was well on his way to the top when an injury sidelined his career, and could have nearly ended his life. From humble beginnings to his major success to an injury that changed everything and the long road to rebuild his career, take a journey into the life of one of pop music's biggest superstars when "The Untold Story: Jason Derulo" premieres Tuesday, May 14 at 10:00 PM/ET, only on E!

In this incredibly revealing half-hour, Jason Derulo talks candidly about his modest beginnings and just how hard he had to work to get where he is today. He takes viewers to his hometown to break bread at his family dinner table. Derulo's Haitian-American family weighs in on the star as well and share details of his earliest performances, and why they knew early on that music would be an important part of his life. Then Derulo and his manager go back to the basketball court where the two met and forged a friendship that would turn out to be incredibly successful for both.

The road to fame was not easy but Derulo's work ethic and hustle started to get him noticed and eventually led to his becoming the first male artist to have his first two singles debut at #1. Then in January of 2012, Derulo was in a horrible accident that took him completely away from his dream and almost claimed his life. Viewers will see footage of Derulo performing the exact acrobatic move that he has done so many times and eventually went wrong, an interview with the doctor who treated him, and x-rays from his injury. He details out exactly what happened that fateful day, what drove him to rebuild his career all over again, and how he has battled his way back from near-death to stand on the edge of career greatness once more.

The special also looks closely into Derulo's personal life as he opens up about his relationship with singer/actress Jordin Sparks, following self-admitted years of late night partying and accepting advances of the many women who found him irresistible. Sparks reveals how she and Derulo almost didn't get together ... until she made the first move.

With never-before-seen footage and exclusive behind-the-scenes access that viewers have come to expect from the network, E! will uncover the real man that is Jason Derulo, when "The Untold Story: Jason Derulo" premieres Tuesday, May 14 at 10:00 PM/ET.
